KU (Kuvempu University) is a UGC affiliated institution which provides different post-graduate and doctorate programs under the departments of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Law. Founded in 1967, the university is a member of the Association of the Indian Universities (AIU) and provides postgraduate and research programmes in different branches.

The university provides Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) programmes in over 30 branches via the respective faculties. M.Phil. can be pursued full-time by qualified aspirants or part-time by working people such as teachers in any organization recognized by UGC or State/Central Government or people working as Librarians or Physical Education Personnel.

Admission to the M.Phil. the programme will be done on the basis of aspirant’s performance in the qualifying examination and marks scored in the entrance examination, to be organized by the university.

Aspirants who satisfy the eligibility criteria can register themselves for admission to the M.Phil. programme by filling the prescribed application form and submitting it along with the procedure fee.

  • Candidate should have completed his/her Master’s degree in the relevant or allied subjects
  • Candidate should have graduated with a minimum of 55% aggregate of marks to get the admission.
  • The reserved category students should get a minimum of 50% aggregate marks to get the admission.
  • Aspirant should have finished his/her Master’s degree in the relevant or allied subjects with a minimum of 55% aggregate of marks
  • SC/ST aspirants who are in service on a regular basis from before March 31, 1992, as teachers in college and university departments should have passed the postgraduate degree with at least 50% aggregate of marks
  • If the subject in which the aspirant seekings to pursue research is other than the one studied in post-graduation but is an inter-disciplinary subject, the aspirant shall be qualified if advised by M.Phil Committee and Board of Studies of the subject


Step to Apply

M.Phil. (English) , M.Phil. (Hindi) & M.Phil. (Sanskrit)

  • Aspirants should submit the following original documents to the university at the time of final admission:
    1. Marksheets and Certificates of 10th and 12th standard.
    2. Certificate of graduation and post-graduation degree.
    3. Proof of work experience
    4. Caste certificate of SC/ST
  • Aspirants can register by downloading the application forms available at the official university website
  • Duly filled-in applications, along with the fee and educational qualification certificates, must be submitted to the Chairperson of the related Department. The fee must be submitted via demand draft (DD) drawn in favor of “Finance Officer, Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta”


Kuvempu University Admission Procedure


The candidate must appear for a written test as a part of the admission process.
Candidate’s performance in the entrance test as well as a qualifying examination
The students who are shortlisted at the admission process will be called for counseling by the University.
Selected candidates will have to attend the counseling by themselves.
Candidates also have to bring the Original Certificates of enclosures provided during the application process.

Exemption from Entrance Examinations


Candidates who have passed UGC
Candidates who have passed UGC-CSIR
Candidates who have passed GATE
Candidates who have passed GRE
Candidates working as teachers in QIP/FIP
Project fellows who are selected through a defined process in any research project and funded by any teacher of UGC approved by Government of India/foreign countries.M.Phil. (English) , M.Phil. (Hindi) & M.Phil. (Sanskrit)

  • After completing the registration procedure, the aspirant must appear for a written test. Minimum need aggregate in the entrance test for selection is 40% (35% for SC/ST aspirants)
  • Aspirants who have passed UGC/UGC-CSIR/GATE/GRE or working as teachers in QIP/FIP or project fellows who are selected via a defined procedure in any research project and funded to any teacher of UGC approved department/agency of Government of India/foreign countries are exempted from the entrance test
Questions in the test will be from the syllabus of the post-graduation subjects and research methodology. Aspirant’s performance in the entrance test as well as qualifying examination, both will be the considered for final selection of the students to M.Phil. programme (Weightage of Qualifying examination and entrance test will be 50-50)
  • The university written entrance test will be of 75 minutes period and 100 marks.
