Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai is renowned university funded by the government of Maharashtra. The University Department of Chemical Technology was renamed to Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology (Autonomous) (MUICT) (Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai) on 26 January 2002. Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai was founded in the year 1933 as University Department of Chemical Technology of Bombay.

Eligibility for Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai Ph.D. Admission 2018

Ph.D. (Bioprocedure Technology)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Bioprocedure Technology must fulfil the following criteria: -

  1. A Bachelor degree (12+4) in Engineering/ Technology/ Pharmacy or an equivalent.
  2. A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering/ Bioprocedure Technology/ Chemical Technology from any discipline at ICT/ Pharmacy/ M. Tech. Biotechnology/ Biochemical Engineering or any other UGC recognised university with minimum 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 55%.

Ph.D. (Dyestuff Technology)

The aspirant applying for Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering must have the following: -

  1. A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology (any discipline in ICT)/ Pharmacy/ Plastic Engineering of ICT/ Master’s in Engineering in Petrochemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  2. A Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from ICT or any other UGC recognised university with minimum 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 55%

Ph.D. (Food Biotechnology)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Food Biotechnology must have the following: -

  1. A Bachelor's degree (12+4) in Food Engineering and Technology or Biotechnology/ Food Biotechnology of any UGC recognised University with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA (55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in case of reserved category).
  2. A Master's degree in Food Engineering and Technology / Food Technology/ Biotechnology/ Food Biotechnology/Food and Biochemical Engineering/ Chemical Technology (any discipline at ICT)/ Chemical Engineering of any UGC recognised University with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA (55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in case of reserved category).

Ph.D. (Food Engineering and Technology)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Food Engineering and Technology must have the following: -

  1. Bachelor's degree (12+4) in Food Engineering and Technology or an equivalent.
  2. Master's degree in Food Engineering / Food Technology/ Food and Biochemical Engineering/ Chemical Technology (any discipline at ICT)/ Chemical Engineering of any UGC recognised University with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA (55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in case of reserved category).

Ph.D. (Oleochemicals and Surfactants Technology), Ph.D. (Pharmaceutical Technology) & Ph.D. (Surface Coating Technology)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Green Technology must have a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering/ Chemical Technology (any discipline at ICT)/ Pharmacy/ Plastic Engineering of ICT or any other UGC recognised university with minimum 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 55%.

Ph.D. (Civil Engineering), Ph.D. (Electronics Engineering) & Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Civil Engineering must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in Civil/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/ Production/ Industrial/ Instrumentation Engineering from any UGC recognised University as equivalent thereto with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 55%.

Ph.D. (Biochemistry)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Biochemistry must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in any biological faculty of science of any university recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Ph.D. (Biotechnology)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Biotechnology must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in any biological faculty of science of any university recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Ph.D. (Chemistry)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Chemistry must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in Chemistry from any University recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Ph.D. (Food Science and Nutrition)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Food Science must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in Food Science, Food Procedures, Nutrition, Home Science, Postharvest Technology, Horticulture, Dairy Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry of any UGC recognised University with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA (55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in case of reserved category).

Ph.D. (Mathematics)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Mathematics must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in Mathematics from any University recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Ph.D. (Physics)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Physics must have the following: -

A Master’s Degree in Physics from any University recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Ph.D. (Textile Chemistry)

The aspirants applying for Ph.D. in Textile Chemistry must have a Master’s Degree in Textile Chemistry/ Textile Clothing/ Life Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Chemistry of ICT or of any University recognised by UGC with at least of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA. For reserved categories, the marks or an equivalent CGPA is relaxed to 50%.

Note

  • The aspirants having their scores in NET/ GATE/ GPAT/ CSIR/ DBT/ - JRF qualifying examinations or other equivalent examinations and holding valid fellowship will be given preference in the procedure of admission.
  • The aspirants might be considered for admission who have passed the Master's degree by Research of any University recognised by UGC only if they have a fellowship from any recognised funding agency.
  • All the aspirants will have to take the institutional written test and interview to qualify for admission.

Additional eligibility criteria for Teachers for admission to PhD

The aspirant applying under this category should be a permanent teacher having a full-time teaching experience of two years in any degree college or five years teaching experience in Junior college/ diploma college/ Polytechnic.

Aspirants who are teaching in any Engineering/Technology college approved by UGC/AICTE can also apply for PhD (Tech.) and those who are teaching in any Science college can apply for PhD (Sc.).

Additional eligibility criteria for National Laboratories/ Government Institutions for admission to PhD

Aspirant should have at least 2 years experience as an employee of any National Laboratory or Government Institutions

Additional eligibility criteria for Industry sponsored in-house aspirant

The aspirant should have an at least of 2 years industrial experience.

The industry where the aspirant works must have a well-equipped laboratory for research with at least one PhD employee working in the relevant area.


How To Apply for ICT Mumbai Ph.D. Admission 2018

Ph.D. (Bioprocedure Technology), Ph.D. (Dyestuff Technology) & Ph.D. (Food Biotechnology)

  • Payments made by cheque or money order are unacceptable.
  • The aspirants need to get the photocopies of the certificates which are to be submitted by the Principal of the College or Gazetted Officer or Special Executive Magistrate or Head Master of a Secondary School or teaching staff of a Government /Govt. [Ph.D. (Tech.) and Ph.D. (Sci.) separate for each specialization].
  • The application form will be sent by the Registered Post Parcel on the address the aspirant had offered along with a Handbook
  • The aspirants will be returned a tear-off receipt, which is at the bottom of the application form. It is a non-refundable and non-transferable payment under any circumstances.
  • The application forms will be sold along with a Handbook. The aspirants failing to do so will be treated as all the other students of General Category.
  • Incomplete forms sent will be rejected and there will be no correspondence made.
  • The aspirants need to purchase and fill the form with correct details.
  • The payment for the forms is to be made through cash.
  • Aspirants desirous of taking admission in ICT in Ph.D. Programme need to follow the following steps to apply for the same:
  • The aspirants will have to fill separate forms for various course choices. Aided College / Polytechnic not below the rank of a Lecturer.
  • The application forms must be filled in with true and correct information.
  • The clearly filled application forms are to be summited at ICT counter or sent to the ICT by Post or Courier along with a Pay Order or Demand Draft of any Nationalized/ Scheduled/ Private Sector Commercial Bank drawn in favour of ''Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai'', payable at Mumbai.
  • The forms are to be submitted along with the attested photocopies of the certificates need by the last date.

The aspirants also have the option to download or order the forms by post.

If the aspirant is ordering the forms through the post the payment is to be made only by Pay Order/DD of any Nationalized/ Scheduled/ Private Sector Commercial Bank drawn in favour of ''Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai'', payable at Mumbai.
