Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), more commonly known as Pusa Institute, is situated in Delhi, India. The Institute was founded in 1905 and is administrated by the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research).

At the doctoral level, IARI provides Ph.D. courses in 26 varied branches of Agricultural field. The applications for Doctoral degree begin in the month of February followed by an entrance examination in April.

Aspirants applying for Ph.D. must have a Master’s degree of M.Sc/ M.Tech or ME in the relevant field of agriculture. Admission will be granted based on the performance in the written entrance test and interview organized by IARI as well as academic record in 10+2,

IARI Ph.D. Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Agriculture

Aspirants applying for Ph.D. must fulfill the following conditions:

  • The aspirant should be minimum 21 years old as on July 31, 2018.
  • Bachelor's Degree under 10+2+4 or 10+2+3 or 10+1+4 system or B.Sc degree under 10+2+2 system.
  • M.Sc./ M.Sc. (Ag.)/ M.Tech/ ME degree with minimum 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ ST/ PC aspirants)

Key Points:

  1. Aspirants want admission under Open Scheme must meet the above eligibility criteria. However, an in-service aspirant of Agricultural Universities wants admission under Faculty Up-gradation Scheme (FUS), in addition to the above requirements, required to be a regular employee of the University.
  2. Aspirants must also be ready to continue in service after obtaining the degree. They also required being sponsored by deputation terms. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under FUS" should be completely mentioned on the application form.
  3. A participant under ICAR in-service Nominee scheme, in addition to the requirements listed above, should be an ICAR employee. The status "Sponsored for Admission Under Reserved Seats for ICAR Employees" should be mentioned on the Application form and the forwarding letter.He/she must also have qualified the ICAR Senior Fellowship Examination with or without any Fellowship.
  4. Participants under the Departmental Quota should be working in the IARI/ IASRI/ NBPGR/ MRCPB's Scientific or Technical Staff.
  5. Students appearing in their Master's Degree final year examination can also apply for admission and appear for the entrance. However, they must prove their eligibility on or before June 30, 2018.

IARI Ph.D. Admission 2018 How to Apply:

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Agriculture

Students want admission to the Ph.D. course required to apply only via the online admission portal. They must follow the subsequent steps to apply for Ph.D.:

  1. Visit the Ph.D. online admission portal at IARI.
  2. Click on ‘Register Here’ for new registration.
  3. Fill the need details and then on ‘Register’.
  4. Click on ‘Login’ and enter your email ID and password.
  5. Select your ‘admission scheme’, fill all the details and click on ‘Save & Next’.
  6. Fill all the need education details on the next page and click on ‘Save & Next’.
  7. Upload your image and signature in the need size.
  8. On the payment details page, pay the application fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST/PC/CWSF category) via NEFT.
  9. Click on ‘Save & Next’ and preview your application.
  10. After previewing, click on ‘Final Submit’ and then on ‘OK’.
  11. Take a print out of the form and send it along with self-attested documents before April 23, 2018 to:

Aspirants must submit self-attested copies of the following documents:

  • Class 10th Mark sheet as a proof of Date of Birth.
  • Category certificate, if eligible.
  • Master's Degree Certificate along with the Mark sheets.
  • Copy of Bank counterfoil with details of NEFT transfer fee: Name & Discipline of Bank; Transaction ID; Date of Payment
  • Certificate for those students who are appearing in their Master's Degree final year examination

Note: Aspirants who already hold a Ph.D. degree from IARI or any other university will not be allowed to appear for the entrance examination.

They can apply for admission in only one branch.

IARI Ph.D. Admission 2018 Selection Process:

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Agriculture

Students are selected on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Examination organized by ICAR, the Interview, and past academic records. Following is the marks distribution for the same.

  • Entrance Examination - 80%.
  • Interview - 10%.
  • Academic Records - 10%.

The entrance test will include three papers. The ones who qualify the Entrance Examination are called for an Interview.

The merit list of selected students is published on the official website of IARI as well as PG. School of IARI. Selected students will be allowed to join only after they are declared medically fit and submit the need documents as well as fees. Students required minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ PC students) in order to qualify the Entrance Examination. Paper I will serve to questions from General Agriculture, while Paper II & III will have subject-specific questions.
