IIPS [International Institute for Population Sciences]  is a public university, founded in 1956 in Mumbai, previous known as International Institute for Population Studies. Besides teachings and research activities, the university also offers consultancy to the Government and Non-Government organizations and other academic institutions.

IIPS PG Courses Offered 2018

In the teaching programme, the institute presently offers M.A./M.Sc. in Population Studies, M.Sc. in Biostatistics & Demography, Master of Population Studies (MPS), M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Population Studies. The MPS teaching is conducted both as regular, classroom course and through distance learning.

Admission of aspirants to the above-mentioned programmes is done on the basis of their performance in written test and personal interview.

Aspirants who wish to apply can register themselves by submitting finished applications, along with the procedure fees of Rs. 500/- and all the necessary enclosures. For SC/ST/PH aspirants, there is no procedure fee.

Eligibility Criteria

Master of Arts [MA] (Population Studies), Master of Science'M.Sc] (Habitat and Population Studies) & MA

  • For non-social science background aspirants, they must possess experience in population and health concerned field
  • Aspirants must possess bachelor’s degree in social sciences including Mathematics and Statistics from recognized universities in India or abroad with at least 55% aggregate of marks in all subjects
  • Preference will be given to the aspirants who possess bachelor’s degree in one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Geography and Anthropology, Rural Development & Political Science
  • Aspirant age should not be more than 25 years on or before June 30, 2018.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Biostatistics and Epidemiology)

  • Aspirants must possess bachelor’s degree in core subjects of mathematics or statistics or with at least two papers or mathematics or statistics with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in all subjects from recognized universities in India or abroad.
  • Aspirant Age should not be more than 25 years on or before June 30, 2018.

Master of Population Studies [MPS]

  • Aspirant age should not be more than 25 years on or before June 30, 2018
  • Aspirants must possess a post-graduate degree in social sciences including any of the following branches: Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Geography, and Anthropology with minimum 55% aggregate marks in all subjects.

  • Aspirants can register themselves by submitting duly filled-in applications and all the necessarily enclosures, along with the fee of Rs. 500/- via DD drawn from any nationalized Bank in favor of “The Director, IIPS, Mumbai” to the Assistant Registrar (Academic). Aspirants can also submit the procedure fee in cash at the university cash counter.

  1. No objection certificate from employer.
  2. Marks sheets of all earlier semesters.
  3. Category certificate (if applicable)


Admission Procedure 2018

Master of Arts [MA] (Population Studies), Master of Science [M.Sc] (Habitat and Population Studies) & Master of Population Studies [MPS]

  • There will be no entrance test organized for foreign aspirants. Foreign aspirants will be selected straight if they fulfill the eligibility criteria of the institute.
  • Selection of the aspirant will be based on their performance in the written test and personal interview.

Fellowship:

Selected Indian student will be honored by Government of India fellowship of Rs.5000/- per month.

About Us

THE INSTITUTE

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities and was declared as a 'Deemed University' on August 19, 1985, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.

Started in 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations, it has established itself as the premier Institute for training and research in Population Studies for developing countries in the Asia and Pacific region. IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional centers, in that it was the first such center to be started, and serves a much larger population than that served by any of the other regional centers. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
