Method of Application
IIM Bangalore (IIMB) is ranked among the top institutes in management education category in India. This institute strives to equip the students with respect to today’s scenario to face upcoming challenges in tomorrow. IIMB awards students a two year, full-time residential PG Program in Management (PGP)equivalent to MBA provided by other universities.
A valid Common Admission Test (CAT 2016) score is needed to generalize the at least marks expected from an aspirant in respective fields (as represented by at least marks desired in various sections). In short, CAT score is an important parameter towards selection in IIM’s, as it varies every year. This score affects the performance of students at subsequent admission stages. After calculating the marks of various sections, a composite score has been framed.
There are two ways for admissions to the PGP: one for Indian students and the other is for overseas aspirants. The admission proceedings and application procedures for both are different.
PG Program (PGP): This program has been provided to offer expertise in both domestic & international public policy. It helps the students to develop their leadership, judgment making as well as communication skills. The teaching methodology comprises an exchange of ideas from both government & private sector in one classroom.

IIMB MBA Admissions 2018 How to Apply
PG Programme in Management [PGPM]
Students want admission to MBA programmes at IIMB should apply via official CAT website. The registration fee is INR 1700/- (For General and NC-OBC aspirants) and INR 850/- (For SC/ST/ OBC aspirants).
For admission to IIM Bangalore, aspirants will have to select the name of the program provided at the institutes as per their preference. Along with the preference for a program, aspirants also have to enter their choice of city for the interview.
Admission to PGP will be provided to both international & domestic aspirants. IIMB follows the detailed & well-defined admission procedure. Admission panel will judge the candidates on the basis of certain parameters as discussed below:
IIMB picks up those students, who performed well & consistent in their high school & graduation level. Next criteria are the performance of the students (sufficient aptitude requirement) in CAT 2016.
IIMB has developed an internal two-phase admission procedure to select the meritorious students for its PGP programme. The first phase is eligible to those students who have qualified in CAT 2016 to determine the number of students to be called for the Personal interview round.
During the PI procedure students have to write a short note on a topic given by IIMB authorities. The topic will be chosen from present political, economic & business affairs. Apart from sports, areas of creative thinking will also be covered. The time allotted for writing the short note will be around 30 minutes.
During PI, students’ academic skills, work quality & experience will be evaluated. The short note will be evaluated separately. Marks of interview & written test will be used to identify the collective marks, which will act as a pre-selection parameter for the second phase of selection.
Note: Interviews with International students will be organized via video conferencing.
CAT score calculation, first phase:
The first phase of selection procedure covers written test & pre-interview proceedings. All standardization will be performed with respect to students belonging to the first phase only. In short, we can say that I phase will cover CAT score, Marks in 10th& 12th standard, marks in the bachelor degree, Gender diversity, work experience & references.
|At Least marks requirements|
|Category||QA||DI & LR||Verbal ability & reading comprehension||Total|
For marks listed above, student’s percentage marks in 10th& 12th board are initially divided by 90th percentile obtained in that board. 90th percentile will be calculated by considering the score of (past two years) of CAT participants in that board.
For students shortlisted with respect to the marks said in the above table, final marks will be used for bachelor or professional degree (if any). Aspirants with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are applicable to be considered under professional courses.
For all the aspirants shortlisted according to the above score, work experience will be calculated as:
=5x/36 where 0
=5 if x>=36, where x is the number of the months of work experience. It means work experience will be maximum of 36 months or greater than that. The work experience score (maximum 5) will be multiplied with work quality as decided by interviewer which is given as (0.25-0.5-1-1.5-2). Work experience score & professional course score will be calculated on the scale of 10.
Apart from work experience, other selection components will be fixed as:
20 points in CAT will be derived via the marks obtained in the sections asked in CAT exam (QA-5 points/DI & LR-8 points& VRC-7 points). After a proper normalization procedure, students will be called for II phase of selection.
Note: Gender diversity component will be considered for the Pre-PI stage (I phase), not eligible for II phase.
Second Phase of Selection:
Here the performance of candidates in the written test will be evaluated in terms of content used & style. For Personal Interview – the average of the scores given by the interviewers will be considered, while for the note content and note style, the scores given by an independent evaluator will be considered. All aspirants will be need to offer three confidential reference letters from their employers or faculty and this will also be used in the individual interview evaluation.
Weightage for note content=7.5
Weightage for Note Style=7.5
After proper standardization, pre PI score will be added to the above scores (excluding gender diversity score) to calculate the final aggregate score.
Note: In pre PI stage those students who have performed well in academics & also have a good work experience. It is very easy to find out those candidates for the PI who have good academic record and work experience but who, while doing well enough in the CAT to be in the first cutoff, may have slightly missed the good score that would have been needed if CAT was the only basis for the PI shortlist. Such aspirants can easily replace those contestants who have only a high CAT score but not well enough academic record and work experience.
International students (those who have the valid passport or travel document) can apply straight to PGP program. Desired GMAT code for IIMB is Q9H—KK-49. If foreign students are not in the position to take CAT 2017 then they need to appear in the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT 2017). After the declaration of result, qualified students need to report in IIMB with an official report card. Admission requirements for the same are given below:
Undergraduate degree or any other higher degree with at least of three years with 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent GPA.
Note: In order to qualify as a resident abroad for the purpose of applying as an International Aspirant to PGP 2016-18, an aspirant should have been (expected to be) resident outside India for a duration of 18 months between January 01, 2014 and December 31, 2016, and be outside India during the CAT 2017 examination window.
