IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) is a distance learning national university situated in New Delhi, India. It is run by the central government of India, and with over four million students. It is the largest Open University in the world.

The university provides admission to M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy) and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) programs for the July session. It provides seats in 12 various branches of the Ph.D. program and 2 streams of M.Phil. Program. The number of seats available in each program is different.

The M.Phil./ Ph.D. programs involve coursework during the first six months of admission, which will be organized in IGNOU Campus at New Delhi only.

The registration procedure has started already. Aspirants who wish to apply can submit the application form on the official website of the university. Students have to pay an application fee of INR 1000 at the time of registration procedure. The last date for online form submission is February 16, 2018.

The selection procedure consists of written test followed by interview round. Participants must qualify both stages of selection procedure to get admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. program in IGNOU.

IGNOU Ph.D. & M.Phil. Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Mass Communication

To seek admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. program, aspirants must qualify the clear eligibility criteria mentioned below:

Eligibility for M.Phil.

  • Aspirants must have master’s degree in the relevant branch of a recognised university by UGC.
  • There is a relaxation of 5% marks for reserved category aspirants (SC/ ST/ OBC).
  • The at least marks need to be applicable for admission to M.Phil. and the Ph.D. program is 55%.

Eligibility for Ph.D.

  • Aspirants holding M.Phil. Degree (along with coursework and dissertation both) or those aspirants who have completed NET or any other equivalent examination will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test.

  • Master's Degree from a University recognised by UGC in the relevant branch with minimum 55% marks.

IGNOU Ph.D. & M.Phil. Application Form 2018

Aspirants need to apply via online method only. Applications received after the due date will not be accepted.

Participants have to pay an application fee of INR 1000 at the time of registration procedure. It can be paid in offline method via demand draft of INR 1000 in favor of IGNOU payable at New Delhi. The last date of online registration is July 31, 2017. Students are advised to check eligibility criteria before applying for the program. Aspirants have to mention a valid email address or phone number on the application form.

Students need to make sure that all the information which is mentioned on the application form must be accurate and similar to the information of original documents. No hard copy of the application form will be accepted. All the information regarding admission procedure will be sent by email.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Go to official website i.e. www.ignou.ac.in.
  2. Click on the admission link
  3. Register by using your email id and password
  4. Login after the confirmation of email
  5. Enter the details asked in application form
  6. Upload the signature and photograph in jpeg pattern
  7. Image size should not be more than 50 kb
  8. Save the application form
  9. Pay the application fee by either of the available modes
  10. Take the print out of application form for future reference

IGNOU Ph.D. & M.Phil. Admission 2018 Selection Procedure

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Mass Communication

The selection is done on the basis of written test followed by the interview. Shortlisted aspirants on the basis of their performance in the written test will be called for interview round. Applications establish appropriate for admission will be called for the entrance test. Provide letters for admission will be sent to the Selected Aspirants only.

Aspirants holding M.Phil. Degree (along with coursework and dissertation both) or those aspirants who have completed NET (organized by UGC/ CSIR/ ICAR) or any other equivalent examination will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test.

Entrance Test

  • The Entrance Test will be organized by the university on August 20, 2017 (Sunday).
  • Students must score at least 50% marks in the entrance test to qualify the exam.
  • The hall ticket will also be announced on the official website of IGNOU one week prior to exam date.
  • Aspirants must bring their hall ticket to the exam center, else they will not allow sitting for the written test.
  • The list of shortlisted aspirants who will need to appear for the Entrance Test will be displayed on IGNOU website.
  • Participants have to bring an original identity proof having the photograph, such as Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Passport and ID card at the examination center.

Interview/ Presentation

  • The Entrance test will be held in 13 cities. The table below represents the test center with their code.
  • Aspirants who are exempted from written test will also be called for interview round.
  • Qualified aspirants in the written test will be called for interview round/ Presentation.
