One of the largest open universities in the world, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) provides a wide range of academic programmes, both short-term as well as long-term, leading to Undergraduate Degrees, Postgraduate Degrees, and Doctoral Degrees. The School of Education (SOE), IGNOU provides Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed) at Under Graduate and Post Graduate level, respectively, along with several another diploma, certificate, professional courses.

The online admission process for B.Ed and M.Ed courses usually commences in the month of May/June and ends in mid-July every year. Aspirants will need to submit the filled-in application form along with the attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum-Admission Form. Foreign students residing in India who have valid student visa for the at least period of the programme are also applicable for admission to IGNOU programme.   

For admission to B.Ed and M.Ed courses, aspirants are shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test, organized by IGNOU Delhi and usually held in the month of August every year. As for the semester examinations, the University organizes Term-end Examination twice a year in the months of June & December. The University offers reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, the non-creamy layer of OBC, War Widows, Kashmiri Migrants and Physically Handicapped learners, as per the Government of India rules, for admission to its different programmes.

Eligibility Criteria for IGNOU B.Ed & M.Ed Program


  • Aspirants should have obtained minimum at least 50% aggregate of marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/Commerce/Humanity (OR) Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto
  • Aspirants must be Trained in-service teachers in elementary education or should have finished an NCTE recognised teacher education programme via face-to-face mode


  • Only working teachers are applicable for admission to M.Ed programme
  • Aspirant should possess B.Ed degree with minimum 55% aggregate of marks
  • Aspirant should have two years’ teaching/professional experience after completion of B.Ed programme in a Government/Government recognised school/NCTE recognised teacher education/research institution in education

Note: Only those aspirants whose results are declared and are qualified at the time of submitting the entrance cum application form are applicable.

M.Ed & B.Ed

Aspirants will need to submit the filled-in application form available in the official university brochure along with the attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum-Admission Form.

The original documents along with the programme fee should be submitted at the time of admission for verification, upon receiving provide a letter of admission.

The programme fee must be paid only by way of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favor of “IGNOU”, payable at the city where the Regional Centre of the aspirant is located.

Registration Fee For B.Ed courses:

  • Application forms are submitted at the university office counter – INR1000  
  • Application forms are submitted via post – INR 1050

Note: Students who are not able to complete their programme within the maximum period can take re-admission for additional duration in continuation of the previous period

IGNOU B.Ed & M.Ed Selection Procedure 2018

M.Ed & B.Ed

Admission of applicable aspirants to B.Ed/ M.Ed programme shall be done Regional Centre-wise/State-wise on the basis of the score obtained in the entrance test, organized by IGNOU all over India.

The Entrance Test is usually held in the month of August every year. In case of non-receipt of Admit Cards three days before the date of Entrance Test, aspirants can download the same from IGNOU website and report to the Examination Centre for appearing in the Entrance Test. Hall tickets are dispatched to appearing aspirants ten days before the Entrance Test.

Result cards for the Entrance tests indicating the qualifying/ non-qualifying status would be dispatched to all the aspirants who appear for the examination.

Note: The final admission to the programme shall be subject to their rank in the merit list in the Entrance Test and production of proof of their eligibility at the time of the last date of submission of application along with the with original certificates and programme fee.
