Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an advanced research institute founded and fully funded by the Recater Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary point of view. At current the Institute has about 150 employees and students that comprise about 26 full time faculty members, 24 non-academic staff and about 90 M.Sc. / M.Phil. / Ph.D. students. It has been honored the highest NAAC rating of A++ (under the old methodology) given to Indian academic institutions.
The Institute provides the following programmes: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics, Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Development Studies. M.Sc. The programme is a two-year programme, which imparts students with a rigorous and hands-on training in Economics. While the objective of the Ph.D. programme which is for around 4 years is to produce researchers with diverse disciplinary backgrounds who can address issues of economics, energy and environment policies. The M.Phil. The programme is also a two-year programme, designed for those who would like to acquire a certain level of analytical and applied skills but may not be keen on studying a Ph.D. degree.
The M.Phil. /PhD, students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 17,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfil the terms and conditions for PhD registration, would receive a monthly stipend of Rs 26,000/- after PhD registration in the third year.
The Institute invites applications for the three programmes for the academic year 2018-19. The admission to the programme is via an Entrance Test followed by an Interview. The entire application procedure for the admission is online and must be finished by March 31st, 2018 (tentative).

You should have one of the following degrees: B.A/ B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com/B.Stat/B.Sc (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech/B.E or its equivalent with minimum the 2nd division in Economics branch and 1st division in other branches.
You must also have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary. If you haven’t, higher-level Required based scholarships are available to Masters Students as per institute’s norms.
M.Phil. (Development Studies) & Ph.D. (Development Studies)
You should have one of the following degrees: M.A/ M.Sc. in Economics/ M.Stat./ M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/ MBA/ M.Tech./ M.E/ B.Tech/ B.E or its equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks for Economics branch and 60% aggregate marks for other branches.
You must also have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary.
You should register for the Application Form on the IGIDR official website. You should validate your details and Save your application by clicking the 'Validate your details' and 'Save & Next' button.
Step 3: You should upload your photograph and signature as per the requirements.
Step 4: You must then click on the Preview Tab to preview and verify the entire application form before FINAL SUBMIT. You should note down the Provisional Registration Number and Password.
Step 2: You should then fill in the necessary details in the form. Your application procedure is clear and you required not send this to the Institute.
The entire Application procedure is online only.
Step 1: You should choose the tab "Click here for New Registration" and enter your Name, Contact details and Email-id. You can modify details, if need, and click on 'FINAL SUBMIT' ONLY after verifying and ensuring that the photograph, signature uploaded and other details filled by you are correct.
Step 5: Application Fee: You should pay the following Application fee by clicking on the “Payment” tab via Master/ Visa Debit or Credit cards or Internet Banking.
Step 6: After completing the process of applying on-line including payment of fees, you should take a printout of the system generated the online application and should ensure the particulars filled in are correct and retain it along with Registration Number and Password for future reference. A Provisional Registration Number and Password will be generated by the system and displayed on the screen.
You will be selected on the basis of your performance in an Online Test and an Interview. If you qualify the online test, you will be shortlisted for the Interview. The Online Test will be separate for M.Sc. and M.Phil. / PhD courses.
The test for all the courses will emphasize on testing your general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills at suitable levels.
In addition, if you are applying for M.Sc. The programme, you will have the option of responding a section on either Economics or Mathematics at the undergraduate level.
The reservation criteria will be as per the norms prescribed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
