GRI Ph.D. Admissions

Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), Dindigul provides Ph.D. in 27 branches in total in different fields of arts and science. The institute education system is designed in order to promote rural development and hence, education in the rural area.

Admissions to the Ph.D. program at GRI are organizeed twice in a year, the first releasement comes in the month of January while the other one comes in August. Admission to the institute is made on the basis of entrance test organizeed by the institute. Admission is open to all Indian and foreign students satisfying the eligibility criteria. 

Ph.D. program at GRI is provideed in two modes: Full-time and part-time. Aspirants applying for part-time Ph.D. program should have an at least of 5 years of experience at the time of registration.

Eligibility Criteria for GRI Ph.D. Admissions 2018

M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering

Aspirants (Indian / Foreigner) who have studied under 10+2+3+2 years format or Equivalent and qualified for the award of the Master’s Degree in relevant branch by any university recognised by the UGC in relevant branch with not less than 55% marks (50% for SC/ST and part-time non-teacher aspirants) or an equivalent grade are applicable.

In addition, he/she should have qualified the entrance test organizeed by GRI OR should have obtained M.Phil. or qualified the UGC - JRF / NET / SLET / lecturer-ship / GATE / CSIR / ICAR / ICSSR or other fellowships or passed equivalent examinations

How to apply for GRI (Gandhigram Rural Institute) Ph.D. Admissions 2018?

M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering

You can fill the application form for admission to Ph.D. program online. Before starting to fill up the application form, read the e-prospectus  and get willing with the following documents:

  • Signature in JPost Graduate pattern (Max.size:20kb)
  • Recent passport size colour photo in JPost Graduate pattern (Max.size:100kb)
  • No Objection Certificate in the prescribed pattern in JPost Graduate pattern (Max. (Max. size: 300kb)
  • Post Graduate Mark Statement in JPost Graduate pattern (Max.size:300kb)

Steps to fill the online application:

  1. Fill the application cautiously
  2. Upload the need documents
  3. Make online payment
  4. Finally, ensure Final Submit
  5. Download your application in PDF pattern for your reference.

After Final Submit you cannot edit the application

Cost of the application: Rs.1000

Payment can be made only by online mode.

SC/ST participants can have the application free of cost by submitting the need details.

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering

    Admissions to the Ph.D. program at GRI are made on the basis of an entrance test organizeed by the institute. Aspirants shortlisted from the entrance test will be called for an interview.

    Entrance test:

    • In case of foreign aspirants, an online test will be organizeed, the test will be of one and an hour in period consisting of 60 MCQs (Research aptitude-25%, Related Subject-75%)
    • One hour of Research Aptitude (General) and other on the subject related
    • An at least of 60% in each component is a must to become applicable for provisional admission
    • The entrance test is of 2 hours in duration


    There will be an interview for the aspirants who passed the entrance test and the M.Phil. holders in which the aspirants shall discuss their research interest/area.
