The Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed University, the third oldest educational Institute in the country founded on October 6, 1821, is currently ranked 40th amongst the top 45 Universities of the country and 11th in terms of reputation. Ph.D. in Archaeology
You required being an M.A. in A.I.H.C. Students having an M.A. degree in a subject other than Ancient Indian History, Culture and/or Archaeology listed above and students having an M.Sc. degree in the subjects listed above will have successfully finished the M.Phil. Or M.Litt. & Archaeology or M.A. Archaeology or Masters in any discipline of Archaeology (such as Prehistory, Protohistory, Ancient studies, Bioarchaeology, Scientific Archaeology, Indology, and Anthropology) or an M. Sc. degree in Anthropology / Geography / Geology / Zoology / Botany / Physics / Chemistry. Course in Ancient Indian History, Culture and/or Archaeology, of any other recognised university or the P.G.Diploma course of this university to become applicable for admission to the Ph.D. course.
Ph.D. in Linguistics
You required being an M.A. in Linguistics or in any one of the classical or modern Indian or foreign languages. Course in Linguistics from any recognised university to become applicable for admission to the Ph.D. course.
Ph.D. in Sanskrit and Lexicography
You required being an M.A. in Sanskrit / Pali / Prakrit. If you have an M.A. degree in a subject other than Linguistics you required to successfully clear the M.Phil. / M.Litt. You required having an at least of 55% marks at the M.A. /M.Sc. examination Relaxation may be made as regards the percentage of marks by 5% in case of reserved category (SC, ST, and PH) aspirants only.
A student want admission to Ph.D. course shall apply on a prescribed form. You must fill the application form in your own handwriting and with a passport-size photo affixed on it along with Xerox copies of the documents listed below, and send it to the Academic Section of the Institute.
Admission to the Ph.D. degree course is open once in the year i.e. (September /October).

Admission to the Ph.D. degree programme shall be done via an Entrance Test. If you already hold a Ph.D. degree in a concerned subject from a recognised University, you may be exempted from entrance tests and coursework for admission to Ph.D. Once you have passed the entrance test or if you are exempted from entrance test, you required to appear for an interview, conducted by the Department related.
To ensure that a student admitted to the Ph.D. degree has sound health, all foreign students shall undergo a medical fitness test as detailed below. Only those students who are established medically fit shall be admitted to the Ph.D. degree programme. If you have passed GATE/NET/SET/ M.Phil./JRF Examination of the relevant subject of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ICMR/DBT, you will be exempted from the Entrance Test. However, if you have already appeared for the medical test, organizeed by this Institute, during your previous admission to a degree course of this Institute, you shall be exempted from appearing for this Test. The related Departmental Committee may give concession for Ph.D. Entrance Tests and Course Work to a deserving aspirant. While giving the concession, the Departmental Committee may consider research work/previous Ph.D./experience done by the aspirant.
