The Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed University, the third oldest educational Institute in the country founded on October 6, 1821 is currently ranked 40th amongst the top 45 Universities of the country and 11th in terms of reputation. This is the only University in the country specializing in past and current Heritage of the country and is globally reputed for quality teaching and research in the specialized fields. The University has three full-fledged Departments, namely Archaeology, Linguistics and Sanskrit and Lexicography.

There are three post-graduate and three post-doctoral courses taught in this university along with post graduate diploma in archaeology and certificate course in research methodology.

The period of the course of M Phil will be of 1.5 years of which the first semester will consist of Research Methodology course and three subject papers suggested by the research guide, whereas the period of M.A. course is two years.

Postgraduate course is provided in three branches, M.A. in Archaeology, M.A. in Linguistics, M.A. in Sanskrit and Lexicography.

Deccan College MA and M.Phil Admissions 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Master of Arts [MA] (Archaeology)

You required to have a B.A. degree, with Ancient Indian History, Culture and / or Archaeology / History / Sanskrit / Prakrit / Pali / Anthropology / Geography / Fine Arts / Architecture as a subject with a at least of 55% marks or B+ or equivalent grade of a recognised University Or you must have a B.Sc. degree, with Anthropology / Geography / Geology / Botany / Physics / Chemistry as a major subject with an at least of 55% marks or B+ or equivalent grade of a recognised University.

Master of Arts [MA] (Linguistics)

You required to have a B.A. degree, with a classical or modern Indian or foreign language as a major subject, with an at least of 55% marks or B+ or equivalent grade of a recognised University; or a B.Sc. degree with Physics / Biology / Anthropology with a at least of 55% marks or B+ or equivalent grade of a recognised University; or a Departmental Research Project or a Graduate degree In Engineering or Medicine.

Master of Arts [MA] (Sanskrit & Lexicography)

You required passing B. A. (or its equivalent) or B. Sc. with minimum one paper in Sanskrit Language.

M.Phil. (History and Archaeology) , M.Phil. (Linguistics) & M.Phil. (Sanskrit)

You required a postgraduate degree in Archaeology/Linguistic/Sanskrit and Lexicography to apply for M.Phil. Programme.

Deccan College MA and M.Phil Admissions 2018 How to Apply?

A student wants admission to MA and M.Phil course shall apply on a prescribed form. You must fill the application form in your own handwriting and with a passport-size photo affixed on it along with Xerox copies of the documents listed below, and send it to the Academic Section of the Institute.

Documents required along with application form:

  • Mark-list of the last qualifying degree examination
  • Migration Certificate (No objection certificate from the University last attended)
  • Character certificate (from the head of the Institute from which the student has obtained his qualifying degree.
  • Documentary proof for date of birth
  • Gap certificate (if eligible)
  • Passing/Degree certificate of the last qualifying degree examination
  • No objection certificate from the employer (if employed)

Deccan College MA and M.Phil Admissions 2018 Selection Procedure

Master of Arts [MA] (Archaeology), Master of Arts [MA] (Linguistics) & Master of Arts [MA] (Sanskrit & Lexicography)

For admission to M.A/M.Phil. course you required to apply on a prescribed form. The application form should be duly filled by you in your handwriting and a passport –size photo affixed together with attested copies of the documents listed below, must access the Assistant Registrar, Academic Section of the Institute by 10th June.

  • Character certificate from the Head of the Department / from which you have obtained your qualifying degree.
  • Marks-lists of the following qualifying examinations: SSC, HSC, B.A. / B.Sc/M.A.
  • If you are a foreign student want admission in M.A. or an Indian Student want admission in M.Phil. , you required submitting a medical fitness certificate.
