Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU) is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is situated in Lonere at the foot of Raigad fort which is historically popular for being the seat of Emperor Shivaji.

The University boasts of being one of a kind in the state and runs numerous programs for the benefit of downtrodden sections of society. The University runs diploma programs for college dropouts under “Community Polytechnic” scheme. It also has reached to rural women and provides them Certificate course in Nursing Technology.

The University provides graduate, post-graduate, research, and diploma programs in engineering and technology. There are 8 B.Tech. programs, 9 Research programs respectively for full-time and part-time aspirants, and 7 Diploma programs on providing. programs, 7 M.Tech.

The University has provision for both full-time and part-time Ph.D. research aspirants and apart from 5 programs in engineering, it also provides Ph.D. courses in Science and Humanities. Ideally, the full-time Ph.D. program is of 3 years duration. In total there are 42 seats for Ph.D. aspirants in different departments at the university including both full time and part time programs.

The University organizes admission procedure to its Ph.D. program twice in a year, that is, for the January and the July session. For admission to the January session, the last date to apply is January 15, 2018 (tentative).

Ph.D. is a research degree provided to students who have successfully finished their post-graduation. It is a course which allows a student to study a subject more profusely and pursue research in the same. DBATU provides research program in engineering and science subjects. The admission fee for research degree programs for both Full time and Part time research aspirants is 37,310 INR. If selected, you have to pay the admission fee online only, via SBI-Collect only. The details of fee payment are available on the official website for the university.

Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering

If you wish to apply for the Ph.D. program in one of the engineering branches, i.e., chemical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical engineering, and Civil engineering, you must have an M.E. or M.Tech. You must also have scored an at least of 50% marks in your post-graduation program.

Degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant branch from a recognised university or institute.

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

If you wish to apply for the Ph.D. program in one of the science branches, i.e., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Information Technology, you must have M.Sc. or equivalent degree in a relevant branch from a recognised university or institute. You must also have scored an at least of 50% marks in your post-graduation program.

Step 1: Open the web portal http://academics.dbatuonline.com.

Step 2: Log in using your username (your Registration No.) e.g. Please note that this photograph will be used by the University for your hall ticket (Admit Card) for the End Semester Examination and will be maintained in your permanent record for any further use.

DBATU Ph.D. Admissions 2018 Selection Procedure

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

If you fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above, you can apply for admission to the Ph.D. program at DBATU. The selection for admission to Ph.D. programs is via an entrance test and individual interview. Every aspirant who wishes to get admission in the Ph.D. program has to compulsorily appear for the entrance test.

  • The Response books of Aspirants who qualify General Aptitude paper will only be checked for the Subject Specific Test.
  • The Subject Specific Test will also have 10 descriptive questions of 5 marks each.
  • The Subject Specific Test will have 25 multiple choice questions and will carry 2 marks each.
  • General Aptitude paper will be of 1 ½ hours duration.
  • General Aptitude paper will include three sections – Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability.
  • Aspirants who have qualified GATE/NET/SET/JRF exam in the relevant branch and have a valid score are exempted from appearing in Subject Specific Test.
  • General Aptitude paper will also have 2 General Descriptive Question of 10 marks each.
  • The interview will carry 25 marks.
  • Qualified aspirants will have to appear for an interview in the respective departments at the university.
  • General aspirants who score 50% marks and aspirants belonging to reserved categories who score 45% marks in General Aptitude paper will be considered qualified.
  • General Aptitude paper will have 40 Multiple Choice Questions, where each question will carry 2 marks.
  • The entrance exam will consist of two papers – General Aptitude and Subject Specific Test.
  • Exempted aspirants will have to appear only for the General Aptitude test and Individual Interview.
  • Aspirants who have finished M.Phil. degree in a relevant branch is also exempted from Subject Specific Test.
  • The Subject Specific Test will be of 1 ½ hours duration.

Seat Allotment:

  • The vacant seats remaining after the first round of seat allotment will be provided to the non-GATE aspirants based on merit in the entrance exam and individual interview.
  • In the first round of seat allotment, admission will be provided to GATE qualified aspirants who have a valid score and have qualified the entrance exam organized by DBATU.
  • There will be a separate list of GATE and non-GATE aspirants.
