CUTN (Central University of Tamil Nadu) M.Tech M.Sc Admissions 2018

Central University of Tamil Nadu is one of the 8 central universities of the country established by the Government of India, via an Act of Parliament in 2009. The university presently provides Integrated, Post-Graduate (PG) and Research programmes in multiple branches via Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

Students must fulfil the relevant eligibility criteria for admission to various programmes of the university. Aspirants can register for the test via the online registration procedure available on the official CUCET website. Upon successful submission of applications, aspirants must submit the procedures fee via online/offline payment modes within the stipulated time.

Upon successful submission of applications and online payment of need fees, the students will receive a confirmation message instantly. If the fees payment is done via offline mode, the aspirant will get a message after reconciliation from the bank within 2-3 days of payment. Applications should be submitted online only. Applicable aspirants will be shortlisted for admission to related programmes on the basis of their scores in the CUCET.

Eligibility Criteria for CUTN M.Tech M.Sc Admissions 2018

The following section contains detailed eligibility criteria for various programmes provideed by CUTN.

MA

Master of Arts (M.A.)

M.A. English Studies – 20 seats

Eligibility:

  • The aspirants should not have finished 30 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission
  • The aspirant should possess Bachelor's degree with minimum 55% marks with English as major or one of the major subjects. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively

  • The aspirants should not have finished 30 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission
  • Note: Aspirant who has Bachelor degree but had not studied Hindi as any of the subjects (or) does not have at least need aggregate marks in Hindi as a language, should have qualified Oriental title equivalent to B.A. in Hindi recognised by the Central or State Government with 50% of marks.

    M.A. Tamil – 20 seats

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should possess Bachelor's degree with minimum 55% marks with Tamil as major or one of the major subjects. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
    • The aspirants should not have finished 30 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission

    Note: For CUCET passed aspirants, an interview may be organizeed by the Department in addition.

    M.A. Media and Communication – 20 seats

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should possess Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised University. The period of the test will be 60 minutes and aspirants will response one out of 6 descriptive type questions

      M.A. Hindi – 20 seats

      Eligibility:

      • The aspirant should possess Bachelor's degree in Hindi with minimum 55% marks (or) any Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 55 % marks in Hindi as Optional/Elective/Mandatory Language. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
      • The aspirants should not have finished 30 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission

      Master of Social Work – 20 seats

      Eligibility:

      • The aspirant should possess Bachelor’s Degree (studied in 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 system) in any branch with minimum 55% marks. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
      • The aspirants should not have finished 30 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission

      Note: Aspirants who qualify CUCET 2015 will need to appear for an additional test which will be organizeed by the Department of English Studies.

    M.Sc

    The university provides M.Sc in the following branches: 

    1. M.Sc. General Economics – 50 seats
    2. M.Sc. Financial Economics – 50 seats
    3. M.Sc. Applied Quantitative Finance – 50 seats
    4. M.Sc. Environmental Economics – 30 seats
    5. M.Sc. Actuarial Economics – 30 seats
    6. M.Sc. Chemistry – 16 seats

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirants should not have finished 24 years of age as on 1st of July of the related year of admission
    • The aspirant should possess Graduate Degree with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised University and had studied Mathematics at plus two level. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively

    Note: In case of M.Sc Chemistry, the aspirant should possess Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Main) or with Chemistry as one of the major subjects with an at least of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 55% and 50% respectively

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts & M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

    Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

    Ph.D. (English)

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should possess M.Sc. degree with 55% marks in the related or an allied subject, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute. For CUCET passed aspirants, an Interview may be organizeed by the Department

    Ph.D. (Life Sciences)

    Eligibility:

    • Aspirants should possess Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Life Sciences/ Zoology/ Animal Sciences/ Biomedical Sciences/ Biological Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Genetics/ Botany/ Plant Sciences, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute. Aspirants with UGC-JRF are exempted from entrance test. Only shortlisted aspirants will be called for Interview

    Ph.D. (Tamil)

    Eligibility:

    • Aspirants should possess Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Tamil / equivalent subject in Tamil, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University. Only shortlisted aspirants will be called for Interview

    Ph.D. (Chemistry)

    Eligibility:

    • UGC NET qualified Aspirants are exempted from Entrance test, for them a written test and interview may be organizeed by the Department in addition. Interview/ written test may be organizeed by the related department in addition to the above
    • Aspirants should possess Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry or equivalent degree, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute the subject. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively

    Ph.D. (Physics)

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should possess M.Sc. degree with 55% marks in Physics or equivalent degree, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
    • UGC-NET qualified Aspirants are exempted from Entrance test. Selected aspirants will need to appear for an interview organizeed by the Department.
    For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
  • UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ SLET qualified aspirants and DST-INSPIRE/RGNF/MANF fellowship holders are exempted from Entrance Test. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
  • UGC-CSIR NET/GATE qualified Aspirants are exempted from Entrance Test
  • Ph.D. (Economics)

    Eligibility:

    • Aspirants with UGC-JRF are exempted from entrance test
    • UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ Equivalent national fellowship aspirants are exempted from Entrance Test. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively
    • Aspirants should possess Master's Degree in Economics with at least 55% overall marks, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 50% and 45% respectively

    Ph.D. (Mathematics)

    Eligibility:

    • Aspirants should possess Master's Degree in Economics with at least 55% in Mathematics, preceded by a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years period from a recognised University/Institute.
    • Aspirants with UGC-CSIR JRF, GATE, NBHM or qualified in any other National level Exams for admission into PhD programmes are exempted from entrance test.

    Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] + Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics), Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] + Master of Science [M.Sc] (Physics) & Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] + Master of Science [M.Sc] (Chemistry)

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should have passed +2 examination or equivalent of any recognised board in India with 60% marks (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science/ Biology). For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 55% and 50% respectively
    • The aspirants should not have finished 20 years of age as on 1st of July of the related admission year

    Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] + Master of Science [M.Sc] (Life Sciences)

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirant should have passed +2 examination or equivalent of any recognised board in India with 60% marks (Biology, Physics, Chemistry with or without Mathematics / Computer Science). For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 55% and 50% respectively
    • The aspirants should not have finished 20 years of age as on 1st of July of the related admission year

    Bachelor of Arts [B.A.] + Master of Arts [M.A.] (Economics)

    Eligibility:

    • The aspirants should not have finished 20 years of age as on 1st of July of the related admission year
    • The aspirant should have passed +2 examination or equivalent of any recognised board in India with Mathematics or Economics with Business Mathematics at the Hr. Secondary level with 60% marks in aggregate. For OBC and SC/ST aspirants, at least need aggregate is 55% and 50% respectively

    How to Apply

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts, MA & BA

    Aspirants need to fill the online application form in order to appear for CUCET 2018. The aspirant may fill the form partially and log in again to clear it later.

    Aspirants will receive confirmation alerts at the time of registration and after completing payment via online modes. The signature image should have dimensions 140 x 60 pixels and the file size should be between 5kb to 20kb

    Step 4: An this step, aspirant can register for three courses in a particular selected program from Central University of Tamil Nadu

    Step 5: In this step, aspirants can edit their applications and proceed for payment of procedures fee via any of the following modes:

    Online method of payment: Aspirants can pay the need application fee via online payment modes such as Netbanking/ Creditcard/ Debit card.

    Offline method of payment: Aspirants can also pay the need fee offline via E-Challan at any SBI discipline. After successful registration, the aspirant will receive a mail and message at the respective register email ID and mobile.

    Step 3: After filling in all the relevant details cautiously, the aspirant should upload his/her scanned photo and signature.

    Note: The photograph should have dimensions 200 x 230 pixels and the file size should be between 10kb to 100 kb. If a participant pays the examination fee via offline challan method of SBI, the bank charges of INR 50 will be borne by the aspirant.

    CUCET Application Procedure
    In case of offline payment via E-challan, the participant will get a message after reconciliation from SBI.

    Pre-requisites for applying to CUCET 2018:

    • Email id
    • Scanned signature
    • Credit card, Net banking or ATM-cum-Debit card (for online Payment mode)

    CUCET application procedure consists of the following steps:

    Step 1: Aspirant should log in to official CUCET website and go to the “Apply” section.

    Step 2: Click on the Registration link against the UG/Post Graduate Course which you seeking to apply for.


    Selection Procedure

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts, MA & BA

    Admission to all the above-mentioned programmes of the Central University of Tamil Nadu is done on the basis of score obtained by the aspirant in the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET). 

    Note: Aspirants who have completed National Level Examinations for admission to Ph.D. programmes i.e. UGC-CSIR JRF or equivalent will be exempted from CUCET Entrance Exam. Some of the university departments may organize written test at the time of the interview if need. However, such aspirants will have to appear for an interview.


    Reservation Criteria of Central University of Tamil Nadu M.Tech M.Sc Admissions 2018

    In each department, 15%, 7.5% and 27% of seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBC aspirants respectively. According to Govt. of India norms, 3% of the seats are reserved for differently abled persons
