Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) provides 18 full-time & 4 part-time M.Tech programmes, 9 M.Phil. programmes and it also provide Ph.D. programme. Generally, for all courses, the application starts from January month of every year. This year, the application for admission to Ph.D./M.Phil., M.Tech./M.A. Translation-German & Russian programme has been started from January 22, 2018 (tentative) and it will be closed on February 15, 2018 (tentative).

Participants for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes will need to appear for the Departmental Admission Test(DAT) organized in the respective Department / School of CUSAT on dates to be released later.

Admission to M.Tech is based on GATE 2018 score except M.Tech Marine Engineering and M.Tech in Marine Bio-Technology. But if sufficient numbers of participants not available then other aspirants without GATE score can appear DAT exam for admission to M.Tech.

In CUSAT, all programmes of CUSAT except the 3-year evening LLB programme are approved for fee exemptions for SC/ST aspirants and other Applicable Communities. You can download the application form for admission to university hostels from university websites. Hostel accommodation for around 700 female and 600 male students is available for all UG, Post Graduate and Research students. 50% tuition fee exemption will be granted for PWD aspirants.

      Duration: M.Tech (Full-time): 2 Year or 4 Semester & M.Tech (Part-time): 3 Year or 6 Semester

      Eligibility Criteria for All M.Tech Programme except Marine Engineering and Marine Bio-Technology

      You must have a B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree or AM IE in any branch or AM II with 60% marks from any recognised University or institution with valid GATE score. Chemical Engineering (Procedure Engineering) (Part-Time)
    • M.Tech. Aspirants belonging to Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are applicable for applying, if they have at least pass marks in the qualifying examination.

  • Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Marine Engineering)

    You must have a B.Tech./B.E/B.S Degree  in Marine Engineering  OR B.Tech./ B.Sc. (Engg)  Degree in Mechanical Engineering or B.Tech. Degree in Naval  Architecture & Ship Building with an at least of 60% marks or an examination of any other University /Institution with 60% marks.

    Preference will be given to those who have passed  M.E.O  class IV examination or at least of 2  years professional experience in shipbuilding /ship repair yard/ship design office/Indian Navy.

    Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Marine Biotechnology)

    You must have a B.Tech/BE in relevant fields or B.Pharma/M.Sc. in relevant fields with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA from any recognized Indian or foreign University.

    M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Management & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

    Eligibility Criteria for M.Phil programmes:

    You must have Master’s Degree in relevant fields with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA points from any recognised University. A relaxation of 5% of marks shall be given to the SC/ST aspirants in the qualifying examination.

    The Aspirants who have passed the Master's degree examination in the Distance/Continuing Education method are applicable for admission only if their degree is honored by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

    Note: 50% Seats will be reserved for University or College teachers.

    Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. programmes:

    You must have a Master’s Degree from a recognised University with 55% marks in the qualifying examination, or a CGPA of 6.0 in the 10 point scale or an equivalent grade in similar scales. An aspirant belonging to SC/ST community is applicable for the exemption up to 10% marks for admission offered that he/she has a pass in the qualifying examination.

    The following aspirants are exempted from DAT:

    • Aspirants who have qualified UGC-NET Lectureship examination or GATE/ICAR/KSCSTE /CSIR/NBHM /ICSS/M.Phil.
    • Foreign students who have been sponsored under a scholarship scheme by the Government of India
    • Aspirants who have been honored Fellowship s by the Govt. They will be interviewed by the Research Committee or its sub-committee and marks will be honored for an interview.

      of India or the Government of Kerala.
    • Aspirants who possess National/Kerala State research fellowship s with the valid score.

    Note: DAT exempted aspirants may be admitted at any time during the academic year on submission of application.

    CUSAT M.Tech. Admission 2018 How to apply?

    ME/M.Tech, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

    You can submit application form an only offline method for M.Phil/Ph.D./M.A. Translation-German & Russian programme. You can obtain the printed application from the related Departments either straight or via the post by paying the need application fee via Demand Draft, drawn in favor of “Registrar, CUSAT” payable at Ernakulam.

    Submit Application Form: There are two methods to submit an application form.

    • By Post: You can send filled application form to concerned departments by post before the last date of form submission.
    • By Person: You can submit the filled application form in concerned departments.
    Visit concerned departments/schools to collect application form or obtain by post. The last date for application is February 15, 2018 (tentative).

    Application Fee:

    • INR 6000/- For NRI Aspirants
    • INR 1000/- For General & OBC Aspirants
    • INR 500/- For SC/ST Aspirants

    Note: An additional fee of Rs. 10,000/- is payable by aspirants opting Dubai as Test Centre.

    You can apply for M.Phil/Ph.D./M.A. Translation-German & Russian programme only offline mode. The registration window has been opened from January 20, 2018 (tentative).

    CUSAT M.Tech. Admission 2018 Selection Process


    Admission Process for all M.Tech programme except Marine Engineering and Marine Bio-Technology :

    For admission to full time  M. Participants will be ranked on the basis of their GATE Score. Tech programmes except for M. Tech Marine Engineering and M.Tech Marine Bio-Technology a valid GATE Score in the relevant subject is mandatory. Only in the absence of sufficient numbers of GATE qualified aspirants, aspirants without GATE Score will be considered for admission on the basis of DAT Score.

    For all Part Time M.Tech Programmes, the rank lists will be prepared on the basis of the score obtained in respective DAT.

    Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Marine Engineering)

    GATE score is not considered. Class I Certificate 10% weight. The admission will be based on the Rank list prepared by giving due weight to qualifying degree marks (50%), Admission Test organized by the Department (40%), and number of years experience after obtaining the degree (weight is at the rate of 1% per year of experience subject to a maximum of 10%).

    In the case of Marine Engineers possessing M.E.O Class II Certificate of competency 5% weight and for those possessing M.E.O.

    Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Marine Biotechnology)

    For admission to M.Tech  in Marine Bio-Technology, GATE score is not considered.  Selection of aspirants is done by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on behalf of  Department of  Bio-technology, Government of India via a National Test along with all such examinations organized by the JNU.  For  details visit JNU website:

    For M.Phil Programme:

    Admission to M.Phil. the rank list shall be prepared on the basis of the Marks obtained Qualifying Examination, DAT Score and score for an interview.  The weight for written test and interview for ranking will be as follows.

     For Ph.D. Programme:

    You should qualify Departmental Admission Test (DAT) for admission to Ph.D. Programme in Departments/Schools at CUSAT. The DAT exam shall have two parts

    • Written Test
    • interview

    You should have scored minimum 50% marks in the written examination to be applicable to be ranked for admission. For Ph.D. Programmes Aspirants belonging to SC/ST communities are entitled to an exemption of 5% marks in the written examination of the DAT.

    The weight for written test and interview for ranking will be as follows.

    CUSAT M.Tech. Admission 2018 Special Reservation

    Physically Challenged: 3% seats are reserved for physically challenged aspirants with minimum 40% disability for all  B.Tech courses, except B.Tech Marine Engineering,  Mechanical  Engineering,  Naval  Architecture & Ship  Building,  Instrumentation, Polymer Science  & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engineering. One seat each for all other academic programmes except  M.Sc. (Industrial Fisheries)  is reserved for physically challenged aspirants.

    Blind: Reservation for Blind aspirants is eligible only for MA (Hindi) and LLM programmes.
