Calicut University (UoC) Ph.D. Admissions 2018

University of Calicut provides 24 undergraduate and 22 postgraduate programs. There are 28 postgraduate teaching and research departments at the university. It also provides full time and part time Ph.D. programs. For admission to either of the research programs provided by the university, one must have had obtained a master’s degree in the same or concerned field of research.

Application forms for the Ph.D. program are available online on the official website of the university. Admission to Ph.D. program starts from February 13, 2018 and ends on February 27, 2018.

Admission to Ph.D. is based on an entrance examination organized by the University Department and the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Aspirants who complete the entrance exam will then be called for an interview at the university. The final Admission judgment will be a resultant of all the three factors taken together.

Ph.D. Programmes

The University of Calicut provides full-time and part-time research Ph.D. programmes in University departments under the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Fine Arts
  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Language & Literature
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies
  • Faculty of Journalism

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. programs:

You should have passed Master Degree Examination or a professional degree recognised as equivalent by University of Calicut with minimum grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or minimum 55% marks in aggregate in the marking system or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution.

Aspirants who have passed M.Phil. degree with an at least of grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale with minimum 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent are applicable to do research work leading to the Ph.D. degree.

Aspirants working in National Laboratories- Universities/Institutes/ Government/ Private Organization nominated/sponsored by the respective employer and also have a postgraduate or a professional degree with minimum grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or minimum 55% marks in aggregate in the mark system or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution, then you are also applicable to this program.

Aspirants belonging to SC/ST categories will be given a relaxation of 10% and OBC aspirants will be given a relaxation of 5%.

How to apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Education

You can apply for the Ph.D. program via an online method on the official website of Calicut University. The registration window will open on February 13, 2018 and it will be closed on February 27, 2018.

  • You can pay application and entrance examination fee to Calicut University Fund by e-payment (SBT online/SBT e-challan/Friends/Akshaya e-challan/Payment gateway).
  • Visit official admission website of Calicut University and Click on “Fee Remittance” link. In case of those subjects which have not been provided in the Teaching Departments of this University, the applications, in that case, should be submitted to the “Director, Directorate of Admission, Tagore Niketan, the University of Calicut” on or before March 3, 2018, 5.00 PM.
  • The print out of the application duly attested with e-challan receipt should access the Head of the University Teaching Departments on or before March 3, 2018, 5.00 PM. Students should keep the ID number for all future communications. Hall tickets for the entrance examination should be downloaded 3 days prior to the examination day.

Note:

The online registration ID number is compulsory for downloading admit cards. Select the purpose 'Application and entrance examination fee for Ph.D. admission 2018-19'.

Shortlisted students after the entrance examination, or otherwise applicable should apply straight for admission to the Department or Centre or Affiliated Colleges (based on their preference) in the prescribed forms along with the application fee.

Aspirants have to apply for entrance test and pay the fees separately if they are applying for two various branches.

Application Fee:

  • SC/ST aspirants: INR 220/-
  • General aspirants: INR 550/-

  • Community Certificate (only for SC/ST aspirants)
  • Self-attested copies of Certificates and Mark sheets

Note: Applicable aspirants after the entrance examination should apply for admission in the prescribed pattern along with a challan of Rs.50/-.

Selection Process

Admission to Ph.D. is based on ranking in the entrance examination organized by research Department and the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

About Entrance Test

The entrance exam will be organized by Research Departments on March 7, 2018. The Aspirants who secure at least 50% marks (40% marks for SC/ST aspirants, 45% marks for OBC aspirants) in the entrance examination are applicable to apply for registration to the Ph.D. programme.

Concession from Entrance Test

  • NET qualified aspirants
  • Aspirants having research fellowships from Central or State funding agencies approved by the University
  • M. Phil. Degree holders
  • Full-time fellows, who have been selected on the basis of a written test and interview, working in a research project under the investigation of a research guide of the University.
  • Teachers of Affiliated, Aided and Govt. colleges under the University of Calicut, and teachers with FDP/QIP, etc., fellowships, and teachers of the University Departments
  • Foreign nationals who are otherwise applicable for admission

Note:

Those aspirants who are exempted from entrance test can seek admission anytime during the academic year.

Those aspirants who wish to appear for entrance exam in 2 various branches should contact the related departments so that the departments could make the necessary arrangements to organize the exam accordingly.
