The University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a public state university situated in Kolkata, West Bengal, founded on 24 January 1857. It was the first institution in Asia to be founded as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. Within India, it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC and the NAAC.

There are seven Nobel laureates affiliated with this university including Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, C. It was also ranked 2nd by the India Today Top India Universities of 2012, 2013 and 2014. V. Raman and Amartya Sen.It has the highest number of students who have cleared the doctoral entrance eligibility exam in Natural Science & Arts. The university is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

The University provides LLM Programme and MCA Programme. The LLM Programme is available in the following two colleges: Department of Law, C.U. It is for a period of three years whereas the MCA Programme is for a period of two years. 2) Jogesh Chandra Chaudhury Law College.

The University invites Applications for admission to the programmes. The Applications for MCA Programme have to be filled online and submitted to the University office. The Applications for LLM Programme can be downloaded online or obtained from the website. The admission to the LLM Programme will be on the basis of the Entrance Test organized by the University and the admission to the MCA Programme will be based on the WB JECA Entrance Exam followed by an Interview.

LLM

You should have passed your B.A. L.L.B (Hons.) / B.A. L.L.B. / L.L.B (Hons.) / L.L.B. examination from this university or from other university recognized by the University of Calcutta.

MCA

You should have B.Sc. Honors degree under (10+2+3) format in any branch of a recognized Board/University/Institute with Mathematics as one of the subjects, with a minimum of 60% marks in Honours/Aggregate at graduation level.

You should also have to secure at least 60% marks in Secondary and Higher Secondary or equivalent level from recognized Boards with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at each level.

Step To Apply

LLM

You can obtain the Application Form either from the University office or the University website.

If you are obtaining it online, you must download it and take a print out of the Application Form.

You should fill the Application Form with the need for personal and educational details. You must also affix a recent passport size colored photograph in the space offered.

Application Fee: You must the Application Fee of Rs. 400 (Non-refundable) for General Category and Rs. 200 (Non-refundable) for SC / ST / Physically Challenged category.

You must then send the duly signed Application Form along with the need enclosures to the following address:

MCA

You should apply only online on the University website.

You should fill the Application Form with the need for personal and educational details.

You must also attach a recent passport size photograph which should not be more than 15kb and with the following dimensions: 3.5cm x 3.5cm

You should then submit the Application Form online. After online submission, a Challan will automatically be generated by the computer mentioning total fees need. The same amount to be paid by Cash using the stated Challan.

Application Fee: You should pay the fee of Rs.100 (for General category) and Rs.50 (for SC/ST/PWD category) by depositing by cash at CU CASH COUNTER by the Challan generated in the computer after online submission any CU CASH COUNTER at any campus.

Enclosures: You must attach the following documents:

  • Photocopies of all relevant mark sheets (Class 10th, 12th and B.Sc. (Hons.))
  • Passport size photograph

Admission Procedure

LLM

You will be selected on the basis of the Entrance Test organized by the University.

The written test will carry a total of 100 marks. The paper will include two sets of question-types, multiple choice type questions, and subjective questions. Out of a total of 100 questions, 60 will be for multiple choice questions carrying 60 marks, and 40 marks for the subjective test from B.A.LL.B. Course syllabus of Calcutta University.

MCA

You will be selected on the basis of West Bengal JECA Entrance Examination. It will consist of two papers.

Paper 1 will be based on Mathematics, which will have 50 multiple choice type questions carrying 2 marks each. This will be for a period of 2 hours.

Paper 2 will be an Aptitude Test. The paper will be organized online. There shall be negative marking of 0.50 marks for every inaccurate response. There will be 50% weightage on the written examination, 20% weightage on B.Sc. honors marks and 30% weightage on the interview.

The examination will be for a period of three hours and will contain multiple choice type questions. There will be 30 questions of 3 marks each and 10 questions of 1 mark each. This will be for a period of 1 hour.

For each wrong response, 1/4 of the total marks allotted to the question will be deducted.

Reservation Criteria

For LLM Programme:-

50% of the total number of seats in the 1st year shall be reserved for B.A. L.L.B (Hons.). Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC and PWD aspirants will be as per University rules. aspirants of this university.

For MCA Programme:-

Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC and PWD aspirants will be as per University rules.
