BIT was the first institute in India to found a Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry, in 1964. It provides programs in collaboration with Indian institutes and industry. BIT also introduced the concept of a small industries entrepreneur’s park and is the first institute in India to facilitate for young entrepreneurs the initial project funding, besides providing nursery sheds, central design and workshop facilities.
The main campus at Mesra is a wholly residential campus. There is also a GP Birla BIT Scholarship worth almost Rupees 2.25 crores available for meritorious students of BIT. Following the founding of the main campus in Mesra, extension centres have been founded in several regions of India as well as offshore centres in Ras al-Khaimah, UAE and Muscat, Oman.
The Institute invites applications for admission to the Master of Engineering (M.E.) The programme, Master of Technology (M.Tech.) The programme, Master of Urban Planning (MUP) Programme, Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.) Programme and Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programme for the academic year 2016-17. All the programmes are for a period of two years.
The entire Application procedure is online and begins from April 26th, 2016. Whereas, 50% of the seats will be reserved for aspirants from State of Jharkhand only. There shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disability and Kashmiri Migrants as per Government of India norms.

M.Sc
Eligibility:
Aspirants must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions founded by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India / AIU. This degree must entail a at least of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling [Class 12 or equivalent] (10+2+3 system).
Aspirants of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have at least 55% marks in average for general category and 50% marks for SC/ST category in their Honours subject. Aspirants of other graduate courses must have at least 55% marks in average for general category and 50% marks for SC/ST category in graduation.
The Application Forms are to be filled online at the University website and submitted by June 2nd, 2016. You must use one application form to apply for one programme only and only one branch of that programme.
However, one application form can be used to apply for different specializations within some M.E. programmes (within a department) & within the M.Pharm programme, and in the case of ME (ECE- Wireless Communication) and M.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering) programmes, you may also use one application form to apply for various Places for Study (Centre), in order of preference.
Step 1: You must visit the University website and click on “Click Here to Apply Online”. You must use the given username and password for login.
Step 3: You must fill in the educational details and professional work experience details.
Step 4: You should then upload your recent colour passport size photograph which should not exceed 5kb in size.
Step 5: You can now either save your Application for future changes or if you have finished the Application, click on “Generate Application Number”.
Step 6: After generation of ‘Application Number’, you must click on the link State Bank Collect for payment towards application fee of Rs. 2500 or general and OBC category and Rs. 1500 for SC/ST category, either via net banking, or debit or credit card.
Step 7: You must then submit your Application Form and take a print out of the Application Form.
Step 8: You should attach the following enclosures with the Form (You must write your Name and “B.Pharm- 2016” on the back of each of the photocopies):
Step 9: You should then send the printed copy of the Application Form along with the need enclosures and a copy of the Payment Receipt in an A4 size envelope with “Application for Post Graduate 2016” written on top of the envelope, to the following address:

For the M.E., M.Tech, and MUP programmes:
For GATE qualified aspirants: Your selection will be on the basis of scores you obtained in GATE 2015 or GATE 2016, earlier academic record and individual interviews/counseling.

Note: There shall be no scholarship for aspirants who haven’t qualified GATE.
M.Pharm
For GPAT Qualified aspirants: Your selection will be on the basis of scores obtained in GPAT 2016, and earlier academic record and individual interviews/counseling.
For Non-GPAT aspirants: Your selection will be on the basis of written test, earlier academic record and individual interviews/counseling. However, your admission will be considered only after participants who have qualified in GPAT 2016 have been considered and admitted, subject to the availability of seats. The Written test will have the same syllabus and paper format as the GPAT Examination.
M.Sc
Aspirants will be selected on the basis of earlier academic record and counseling offered that they fulfil the eligibility criteria. There will be no scholarships for students of these programmes.
The reservation criteria will be as per the norms prescribed by the state government of Jharkhand.
