Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalya (BCKV) is a state university devoted to education and research in the field of agriculture and horticulture. Its favorable location allows the university to organize research in various agro-climatic zones of Bengal. Apart from the educational campus at Mohanpur, West Bengal, BCKV has three regional research station and three regional research substations. The University is affiliated to UGC and ICAR.

The university provides both Master and Doctoral degree programs via its three faculties of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agricultural Engineering. The application procedure for Post Graduate programs begins by the end of June every year. In case of Ph.D. programs, the application procedure is organized in July.

For admission to both Post Graduate and Ph.D. courses, the university holds an entrance examination. The entrance examination is organized by each of the departments separately. Based on the merit in the entrance exam, aspirants are called for counseling and are allotted seats as per the choice of the aspirant and availability of seats.

Eligibility

Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Agricultural Engineering) , M.Sc & M.Sc (Agriculture)

M.Sc. (Agriculture/Horticulture)/ M.Tech (Agriculture)

  • Aspirants  must  have  passed  Higher  Secondary  or  equivalent  examination  (10+2)  in General stream or allied or vocational stream with at least 50 % marks FOR GEN/OBC(40% in case of SC/ST/PH) in aggregate
  • Aspirants must have hold of 4-year Bachelor Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/Agricultural Engineering with minimum 60 % marks or minimum Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 6.60/10.00 in ten-point scale or 3.25/5.00 in five-point scale or 2.60/4.00 in four-point scale for General and OBC categories.
  • Aspirants belonging to the categories of SC/ST/PH minimum 50 % marks or minimum OGPA of at least 5.60/10.00, 2.75/5.00, or 2.20/4.00.
  • The engineering graduates of other branches can apply in the respective departments viz Civil Engineering for the Dept. Tech. of Farm Machinery & Power/Chemical/ Biochemical Engineering for the Dept. of Food Engineering.
  • Aspirants whose final year result is awaited are qualified to apply offered they fulfill the eligibility criteria

Note: Minimum marks for being qualified for M. Admission accepted by WBJEE Board shall be accepted/considered.

Ph.D (Agricultural engineering/ Agriculture/Horticulture)

  • For admission to the Department of Animal Science/ Faculty of Agriculture, the aspirants must have passed B.V.Sc and AH degree/ B.Sc. (Ag.)Hons. Engineering from a recognized University after completing the 4-year Bachelor Degree programme in relevant subjects of Engineering with minimum 60 % marks or   minimum Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 6.60/10.00 in ten-point scale or 3.25/5.00 in five-point scale or 2.60/4.00 in four-point scale for General and OBC categories (for SC/ST/PH aspirants minimum marks is 50 % or minimum OGPA of 5.60/10.00, 2.75/5.00, or 2.20/4.00.)
  • Aspirants who have passed 3-year Bachelor Degree with Honours in related subject followed by a 2-year Master Degree in relevant branches with at least 60 % marks for General/OBC and 50% for SC/ST aspirants in aggregate are also qualified for admission except for    the courses provided by the Faculty of Horticulture and the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture.
  • Aspirants having hold of M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Horticulture degree may opt for admission in the unfilled seat, if any, under the Dept. In Civil/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering are qualified for admission to Ph.D. programme in the respective department.
  • Aspirants must have passed related /relevant 2-year Master degree examination with at least 60% marks in case of GEN/OBC aspirants (for SC/ST/PH minimum marks for eligibility is 50%) in Agriculture/ Horticulture /Agril. with specialization in Animal Husbandry followed by a 2-year Master Degree in related subject
  • Aspirants whose final year result is awaited are qualified to apply offered they fulfill the eligibility criteria
  • Aspirants who hold 4-years Bachelor Degree in Engineering followed by 2 years M.Tech. of Post-Harvest Technology.

Step to Apply

  • The application procedure for both Post Graduate and Ph.D. courses is online. Aspirants can fill their application forms by following the steps given below:
  • Visit the BCKV official website.  
  • Click on “Admission” and choose “PG/ Ph.D. Admission”.
  • Fill in the Online Application Form carefully with all the details by clicking on "START FORM FILL-UP" button
  • Upload JPG/JPEG file format- Photograph & Signature.
  • Submit the application fee via online payment (Debit Card/Net Banking/RuPay) /Off-line (e-Challan generation) mode.
  • After successful payment of application fee, one SMS will be sent automatically by the system at your mobile phone containing the Application No. and transaction details.
  • The application process is completed after successful submission of application fee.
  • Candidate must download the application form and admit card and keep a copy of the same for future reference.

The application fee for Master and Doctoral Programs

  • For Doctoral Degree admission (General/OBC category): Rs. 1000.00
  • The application fee for Master’s degree admission (General/OBC category): Rs. 800.00
  • For Master’s degree admission (SC, ST & PH): Rs. 200.00
  • For Doctoral Degree admission (SC & ST category): Rs. 250.00

Selection Procedure

Aspirants are selected on the basis of the merit in the common entrance test followed by counseling. The entrance exam will be objective in nature. / S.D.O.).

  • Voter’s Identity Card allowed by the Election Commission in favor of the aspirant or his parent (if any).
  • Blood Electrophoresis (Thalassemia) test report.
  • 2 (two) copies of recent color passport size photograph.
  • The attested copy of recent (not more than 6 months old) Medical Certificate from proper authority (Sub-divisional Medical Officer/Superintendent of State Hospital or above) for physically handicapped persons along with CERTIFICATE FROM AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST (Original Copy) to rule out Refractive Mistakes & Colour blindness.
  • NOC in case of employed aspirants( such aspirants must  submit an approved letter of leave for a need  duration allowed by his/her employer within three (3) months from the date of admission, failing which his/her admission will be treated as canceled without any further notification)

  • The questions will be subject-specific and test a aspirants knowledge of research methodologies and their specific subject area.

    After the result of the entrance exam is declared, each department will call aspirants for counseling based on merit in the examination. The aspirants must carry the following documents for counseling session:

    1. The entire Mark-sheet & Age-proof certificate (Madhyamik hall ticket).
    2. SC/ST & OBC-A & OBC-B certificates from the competent authority.
    3. Domicile Certificate allowed by the Competent Authority (Chairman, Municipality/Pradhan, Gram Panchayat /B.D.O.

    Reservation Criteria

    • All the P.G. and Ph.D. seats will be filled up by the domicile students of West Bengal state (EXCEPTING ICAR SEATS).
    • The  non-domicile students will be considered  for admission  in  the unfilled  seats  at  different  departments
    • The SC/ST/OBC aspirants who are domicile of West Bengal will get the benefit of reservation.

    ICAR’s nominees will be considered as per prevailing rules.

    Important Note:

    • Aspirants should submit the photocopy of Grade Card/Mark Sheet of H.S. another qualifying degree (B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Tech/M.Tech) examinations /hall ticket and two passport size photographs on the date of admission test. If an aspirant fails to submit these documents on the day of the examination, their candidature will be canceled.
    • Aspirants must produce his/her hall ticket for getting the entry in the Counseling Hall

    Scholarships:

    Scholarships are granted to the deserving aspirants based on the merit in the entrance examination and the schemes of GOI/state government. Different fellowships and grants are available for doctoral degree aspirants.

    Non-domicile students are not qualified for University Scholarship.
