The Center for Distance Education (CDE), Bharathidasan University provides different courses in the distance method including Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree. It is a course which is currently pursued by aspirants desirous of studying a career in teaching and research. B.Ed in distance method is provided by the Department of Education which was founded in the year 2006.

The Center for Distance Education organizes classes via its different PCP centers, i.e. Personal Contact Programme centers, in Tamil Nadu. There are 500 seats in the programme and students are accommodated in 10 units with 50 students in each unit. 

The course period for B.Ed. in distance method is 2 years and can be finished in the maximum duration of 5 years. The medium of instruction as prescribed by the university is English but the students can write their examination papers in either English or Tamil.

The basic eligibility for admission to this program is a graduation degree from any recognized university in India. The application procedure is offline and qualified aspirants need to submit a filled-in application form at the University or one of the PCP centers.

Bharathidasan University Distance Education B.Ed. Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria


In order to take admission to the B.Ed programme, one required to fulfill certain criteria as follows:

  • Aspirants who have not eligible 10+2 or PUC, i.e. Pre University Examination, but possess a two years diploma in courses organized by the state government or a recognized university and have a degree from any three years undergraduate programme can also apply to this course.
  • Teachers who have been trained in-service and are working presently in government recognized schools within the state of Tamil Nadu are also qualified to apply for this program.
  • An Aspirant must have finished their undergraduate education in the 10+2+3 or 11+1+3 format of examinations and should hold a valid degree from any recognized institution.
  • Aspirants with a diploma in Teacher Education, also known as D.T.Ed. or any NCTE recognized teacher education programme via face-to-face/ regular classes method can also apply for the B.Ed course provided by the Bharathidasan University.

Bharathidasan University Distance Education B.Ed. Admission 2018 How to Apply?


The application procedure for admission to Distance B.Ed program at Bharathidasan University starts in the month of September. The printed and filled in application should be sent with necessary enclosures along with an online receipt paid for 500 INR and should be sent to:

An aspirant applying to the B.Ed program needs to send or submit certain documents along with the duly filled-in application form. The list of these documents is as follows: The last date to obtain the application form and submit a filled-in application. The application fee is 500 INR for B.Ed. Application form. 

The Application form and the prospectus can be collected and submitted in person from the University office by paying an amount of 500 INR via a challan from the State Bank of India, Bharathidasan University Discipline, Tiruchirapalli or the application forms can be collected  from the B.Ed centers/ PCP centers/Application sales centers by submitting an application letter by providing an online payment receipt of INR 500.

Bharathidasan University Distance Education B.Ed. Admission Procedure

The admission to this course is based on the marks secured by an aspirant in their undergraduate degree. The University will reserve the right to allow the students to the B.Ed Personal Contact Centers after counseling for admission which is based on the marks received by the aspirant in their particular subjects.  The communal reservation criteria as prescribed by the state government of Tamil Nadu will also be taken into consideration. The judgment of the University shall remain uncontested and final.

Note that the student once enrolled in the B.Ed programme will not be allowed to change their Personal Contact Centers allotted by the University.

For aspirants who have pursued courses like Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Logic and Indian Culture in their under graduation, must have studied the same subject in their post-graduation as well.
