Avinashlingam University (AVINUTY) provides a full time, one-year degree program in Master of Philosophy and a part-time M.Phil. Sequential program. The Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) is conferred upon an aspirant who succeeds in submitting a thesis on the basis of original and independent research in any particular branch that makes a contribution to the advancement of knowledge. The field of research provideed in M.Phil Program includes five faculties namely, Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, and Business Administration.

Aspirants want admission should submit their applications on or before 10th of July. Admission to M.Phil Program is organized in the month of July every year by Avinashlingam University.

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Education & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

M.Phil. Program (Regular)

  • Aspirants with 5.51 in a 10.00-grade point scale under CBCS, are qualified to register for the M.Phil. Degree Program in accordance with the area of specialization at Master’s Degree level.
  • Aspirants should have finished 10+2+3+2 year’s format or 11+1+3+2 year’s format of study or any other equivalent stream of study in from a recognized University before being admitted for the respective program.
  • Aspirants must have scored minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree program.
  • Aspirants who are eligible for the Master’s Degree prior to 19.09.1991 must have minimum 50% marks. SC/ST aspirants are given 5 percent relaxation from the prescribed minimum marks.

M.Phil. Sequential Program:

  • They must have at least two years of continuous experience in teaching/research level at present.
  • A teacher working in this Institute or in any other school / college / University / research and other institutes or recognized office shall be qualified to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and undergo the prescribed course of study in the Institute, offerd he/she has passed the Master’s Degree with not less than 55 per cent marks or B+ grade in the same or concerned subject of this institute or that of any other University / Institute recognized by the Board of Management of this Institute as equivalent thereto.

AVINUTY M.Phil. Admissions 2018 How to apply?

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Education & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

Aspirants should submit their applications on or before 10th of July. Admission to M.Phil Program shall be finished in the month of July every year.

The application form, complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore – 641043, on or before the last date of submission.

Documents to be submitted

The application should be submitted along with the attested Xerox copies of the following certificates:

  • No-objection certificate alloted by the Head of the Institution in which the aspirant is employed (in case of aspirants applying for the part-time program)
  • Mark/Grade certificate of the qualifying Post Graduate courses
  • Transfer certificate and organize certificate (alloted by the Institution in which last studied)
  • Service certificate alloted by the employer (in case of aspirants applying for the part-time program, specifying the total period of the service put in by the aspirant)
  • Community certificate (if BC / MBC / OBC / SC / ST)
  • Provisional/Degree certificates of the Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses 11

AVINUTY M.Phil. Admissions 2018 Selection Procedure

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Education & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

An entrance and oral examination are organized for all the participants and the performance in these will be taken into account along with the marks scored in the Post Graduate program. The written test will include objective questions for 75 marks and oral test will be for 25 marks. The marks secured in written test and oral examination are added to the marks obtained in the Post Graduate degree examinations and the rank list is prepared accordingly.

Note: Aspirants who possess UGC/ CSIR/ JRF will be given priority.

M.Phil. Regulations

 The course shall cover two consecutive summers starting from April of every academic year to June of the next academic year.

Attendance is compulsory for 45 days during the 1st summer (April-June) and further 15 days between July to December of the same year.

Part I Examinations will be held during the following January. An extension of time for submission of the dissertation will be granted for a duration of 12 months on payment of a penalty of Rs. 450/- per month for the first six months and Rs. 750/- per month for the next six months. Part II Dissertation shall be submitted by the end of next July.

The regulations governing the full-time M.Phil. Course regarding the courses of study, passing minimum, and qualifications of the guide, organizing the M.Phil Course shall apply also to the part-time course.
