Anna University, Chennai is one of the largest university in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is also accredited with a five-star rating from UGC. The university provides a total of 31 undergraduate courses, 64 post-graduate courses and 3 research courses namely Ph.D, MS and M.Phil in different branches.

The university invites application for Ph.D program provideed in the fields of Engineering, Science, Computer Applications, Management and Arts. The aspirants may choose to apply online or can even download the application from the university’s official website. You may refer to the detailed application procedure, for more. The last date to apply for Ph.D program at Anna University is March 5, 2018 (tentative).

For admission to the Ph.D program at Anna University, One must have passed his/her master’s degree in the concerned field, that one wishes to apply for. Read complete eligibility criteria here.

Aspirants will be selected on the basis of their preceding academic performances. Selected aspirants will be called in for a written entrance test and an interview, the final selection will be an amalgamation of the all the three factors. You can refer to the detailed selection process, for more.

If your M.Phil. the degree is concerned to the proposed Ph.D. field of research, then the at least period of the programme reduces by one year (i.e) for full-time it becomes 2 years and for part-time it reduces to 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria for Anna University Ph.D. Admissions 2018

M.Phil/Ph.D in Engineering, M.Phil/Ph.D in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Computer Applications

  • Aspirants must have an at least of 55% marks or CGPA of 5.5 on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (50% marks or CGPA of 5.0 on a 10 point scale for SC/ST aspirants).
  • Aspirants must have master's degree or any other qualification recognised as equivalent in the fields of study that the aspirant is applying to
  • Aspirants must have bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology of the University or any other qualification recognised as equivalent in the fields of study with a at least of 15 years of Research and development (R & D) experience in National Research Laboratories / Public sector undertakings and with at least of three publications in referred impact factor journals or two approved international patents in the last five years.

How to apply for Anna University Ph.D. Admissions 2018?

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

  1. Aspirants can visit the Official Website.
  2. Register yourself with the need detail. Once taken, the application is locked and no more editing is allowed.
  3. Consent from a recognised supervisor from a recognised department of this University is compulsory to consider the application for admission to Ph.D. programmes. 
  4. Filled in application with all the documents need must be sent to ‘The Director, Centre for Research, Anna University, Chennai - 600 025’ so as to access on or before March 05, 2018 (tentative) by 05.30 p.m.
  5. Online fee receipt must be enclosed along with the finished application.

Application registration fee of Rs.800/- for General Category and Rs.400/- for Tamil Nadu SC/ST aspirants.

Preview and confirm.
  • Note the reference number and upload your photo.
  • Pay the fee online which is one time and non-refundable.
  • Enter your individual and academic details, address, experience, employment and publications.
  • Under supervisor’s login enter supervisor’s and present scholar’s details
  • If eligible enter the joint supervisor’s and present scholar’s details.
  • Finally enter the DC/MC member details, preview all parts in PDF pattern and re-edit if need.
  • Take the final printout.

  • Selection Procedure of Anna University Ph.D. Admissions 2018

    • Syllabus for the written test for different specializations will be posted on the website by the Director (Research).
    • The preliminary scrutiny will be done by the Centre for Research and shortlist the applicable aspirants. The shortlisted aspirants shall be called for written test (to be organizeed in the University Departments of Anna University, Chennai only) by the Director, Entrance Examination.
    • The selection shall be based on the performance of the aspirant in written test, interview and the marks scored in the Post Graduate qualifying degree.
    • Only the applications having the consent of recognised supervisor from the recognised department of Anna University, Chennai is considered for admission to Ph.D. program. Other applications are summarily rejected without any notice.
    Fee Structure of Anna University

    Documents to be submitted along with the application form:

    • A brief one-page write-up on the Research topic chosen and duly signed by the suggested supervisor, Joint supervisor if any and the aspirant
    • Organize of classes
    • Photocopy of recruitment order (if any) 
    • Two self-addressed covers stamped to the value of Rs.5/- (Rupees Five only) each
    • Duly attested photocopies of certificates for proof of qualification (X Std. or equivalent, HSC, UG/Post Graduate mark sheets and Degree certificate), Community certificate, Transfer certificate (If eligible) and Service certificates (if any)
      Note: If you have ST/SC certificate then produce the original community certificate at the time of admission for claiming tuition fee concession
    • Certificate from the institution regarding the method of the programme
    • Mark sheets
    • If you have obtained Under Graduate degree under the Full-Time Regular mode of State/Central Universities, IISC, IITs, NITs, IISER or NISER the only you shall be considered as applications for admission to Ph.D. programme
    • Syllabi of the courses undertaken
    • Others have to apply for Course Equivalence to the Director (Academic Courses), Anna University
    • Photocopies of curriculum
    • The above should be enclosed while applying for Course equivalence to the Director (Academic Courses)
    • Evaluation format along with prescribed fee
