Andhra University is one of the oldest universities in India founded in 1926. Today, the Campus provides 17 undergraduate and 35 postgraduate programmes, besides research on par with technical institutions worldwide. The institution has had Sir C.R. Reddy as its establisher Vice-chancellor and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as the second Vice-Chancellor It is situated in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The university designed and implemented a Quality Management System and became the first general university in the country to get ISO 9001: 2000 Certification in 2006.

In a recent survey organized by Star News, AUCE (A) has been rated at first position among the state-owned technical institutions in the country. The college is supported by Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), a World Bank-funded project to develop technical education in the country. TEQIP necessitated autonomous status to the College. AUCE (A) stands at No.1 position in implementing the programme in the country.

The University invites Application form for Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in both part-time and full-time modes. The admission for the programmes will take place via Andhra University Research Common Entrance Test AURCET.

For both Programmes:

For Full Time: You should have a post-graduate degree with at least 55% of marks for general category and 50% marks in the case of SC/ST category or equivalent CGPA in the related subject or in an allied subject or any other post-graduate degree recognized by the University as equivalent thereto.

For Part Time: You should have a post-graduate degree with at least 55% of marks for general category and 50% marks in the case of SC/ST category or equivalent CGPA in the related subject or in an allied subject or any other post-graduate degree recognized by the University as equivalent thereto.

In addition, you should be In-Service satisfying the above eligibility conditions to be able to apply for part-time. Centers.  Admission into part-time programmes will be made in the specified order of priority as given below, with service seniority in each category:

  • Teachers working in the University or the A.U.P.G.
  • Teachers working in Postgraduate and professional colleges  (not applicable if you are teaching Physics, Chemistry, mathematics, and Humanities in professional colleges); OR Lecturers / Librarians / Asst. Centers having finished at least five years of service
  • Librarians working in affiliated degree colleges teaching physics, chemistry, mathematics and Humanities in professional colleges; OR Teachers working in Polytechnic / Government Junior Colleges.
  • Technical employees working in research institutes attached to Andhra University / Non-Teaching employee of Andhra University, A.U.P.G.

    You need to download the Application and Information brochure from the official website.

    You should take a print out of the form and then fill the Application in your handwriting with the need for personal and educational details.

    Application Fee: You should pay the fee of Rs. 800 for general category and Rs. 500 for SC & ST in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favor of the Director, Directorate of Admissions, Andhra University on any Nationalised bank payable at Visakhapatnam. If you want admission in more than one programme, you have to submit separate applications in duplicate for each programme. 

    You should send the duly filled in forms by registered post or in person to the following address:

    Your name and the programme for which you are applying should be written on the reverse side of the D.D.

    You should then submit the applications in Duplicate along with the D.D.

    Admission Procedure

    M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

    You will be selected on the basis of Andhra University Research Common Entrance Test AURCET. The exam, for each subject/department, consists of two papers with multiple choice objective type questions.

    Paper-I shall be of 45 minutes period with 50 multiple choice questions for 50 marks.   Similarly, there is a common Paper 1 for all Arts Subjects / Departments for 50 marks with 45 minutes duration. Paper-I is common for all Science and Engineering Subjects / Departments as the case may be.

    Paper-II shall be of 90 minutes period with 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks in the related subjects for which the syllabi are given in A.U. Paper-II will be various for each subject. Paper-I of Science stream is various from Paper-I of Arts stream. website.

    Concessions: You will be exempted from giving the test if you have eligible any of the following: CSIR-UGC-NET, APSET, RGNF, ICMR, Project Fellowship and M.Phil.

    Application Process

    • The Information brochure relating to subjects provide, eligibility criteria, test-wise syllabus, admission procedure, etc., are placed in the A.U. website www.audoa.in or www.andhrauniversity.edu.in/doa
    • The eligible Aspirants should apply online only for admission into the M.Phil./Ph.D. program via the website www.audoa.in
    • A Aspirants has to pay Rs. 1000/- (Rs.700/- for SC/ST/PHC) for each subject and for each additional program the processing fee is of Rs.500/- additional via online
    • Application forms completed in all respects should reach the Director, Directorate of Admissions, Andhra University, Vijayanagar Palace, Pedawaltair, Visakhapatnam-530017 by Registered Post or in person on or before the due date
    • Office of the Directorate of Admissions will not hold any responsibility for the non -receipt of applications sent by post or courier or late receipt of applications due to postal delay or for any reason whatsoever.

    Reservation Criteria

    The number of seats reserved under various categories shall be calculated on the total seats available in respective units as per the Government of Andhra Pradesh norms.
