Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham invites aspirants for the Ph.D. and M. Phil courses available in their different campuses. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was founded back in 2003, and now has 5 various campuses โ€“ Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Mysore. The University has 15 schools which offer over 150 various courses in a variety of fields.

Ph.D. courses are offered by the various schools among Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Kochi campuses. The University supports the idea of knowledge creation and applied research hence more than 300 registered Ph.D. students clear their research in the University. The course is available on the Full-Time and Part-Time basis. The members of the faculty of any recognised institution can pursue their degree on the part-time basis. The selection is based on an entrance exam, followed by an interview.

M.Phil. courses are offered by the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS) in Kochi campus. The selection is based on the marks in the earlier degree along with an interview. The students can apply for the doctoral programs all via the year, although the call for submission is usually made twice in a year. The call for submission will be made on the University's website and in advertisements.

Amrita University M.Phil & Ph.D. Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Course Name: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Duration:

  • For full-time ph.D. degree for students with Master's or equivalent degree, the period is 3-6 years.
  • For part-time aspirants, a period is between 5-8 years.
  • For full-time aspirants with B.E./B.tech./equivalent degree, the period is 5,4, and 7 years, respectively.

 

Provided at Amritapuri campus:

Biotechnology: Aspirant should have a Master's Degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or any Biological Sciences discipline with minimum 60% marks.

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

Application Procedure for Ph.D.:

The call for submission of the application for the Ph.D. course is usually made twice a year, but aspirants can apply by sending their resume to phd@amrita.edu throughout the year. The call for submission of form will be available on the University's website and aspirants can also get the application form from there. To apply,

  • The aspirant can mention up to three areas of interest in order of preference for the Ph.D. program.
  • Aspirants have to send a Statement of Purpose (describing the research) along with the form.
  • Download and fill the application form available on the University's website.
  • The following certificates are to be sent along with the form:
  1. SSLC/Equivalent certificate.
  2. 10+2 certificate.
  3. Degree/Provisional certificate.
  4. Statement of marks for all the Semester/Years.
  5. Certificate/Mark sheet of additional examinations (GRE/UGC- JRF/Lectureship/etc.).
  6. Transfer Certificate and Organize Certificate from the earlier institution.
  7. Certificate of Physical Fitness from a Registered Medical Practitioner not below the rank of Asst. Civil Surgeon.
  8. One page write-up about the proposed area of research.

Application Procedure for M.Phil:

  • Application forms can be collected from the campus office for Rs. 500/- or downloaded from the campus website.
  • A demand draft of Rs. 500/- in favor of "AMRITA VISHWAVIDYAPEETHAM" is to be sent along with the application form, in case the application form is downloaded from the website.
  • A copy of following certificates is to be sent along with the application form:
    1. S.S.L.C. or equivalent
    2. H.S.E. or equivalent
    3. Master's Degree mark sheet for all semesters/years.
    4. Organize certificate
    5. Transfer certificate
    6. Provisional certificate (if available)

    Note: If the result of the aspirantโ€™s final exams is pending, he/she can enclose the copies of all earlier mark sheets/grade sheet. However, the aspirant must submit the result of the final exams to the Admissions Office as soon as possible along with a cover letter stating the name, course applied for, and application form number of the aspirant.

    All the copies of certificates/documents should be self-attested by the aspirant. The original certificates must be presented by the aspirant at the time of the interview.

    Amrita University M.Phil & Ph.D. Admission 2018 Admission Procedure

    M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/Ph.D in Management

    Selection Process for Ph.D.:

    • The chairman, PGP would screen all the applications and selected aspirants will be called for an Entrance Test, followed by an Interview.
    • The selected aspirants who have qualified for GATE can skip the entrance exam and appear directly for the interview.
    • The aspirants will then be selected on the basis of their marks in the exam, interview, and their earlier academic record.

    Note: The selection committee may request additional evidence of letters of recommendations, publication of work.

    Scholarships:

    1. Viveshwaraya Full Time Scholarship:  Rs. 31,500/- per month for first two years and Rs. 35,000/- per month for next three years.
    2. For those who do not reside on campus, HRA is also available.
    3. Viveshwaraya Part-Time Scholarship: Rs. 2.5 Lakhs on successful completion of the Ph.D. degree.

    Fellowship: It comprises a tuition waiver and an Rs. 15,000/- per month stipend.

    Selection Procedure for M.Phil:

    • Aspirants will be selected on the basis of their interview and their marks in their Master's Degree.
    • The application forms for the applicable aspirants will be screened, and aspirants will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic record in their Master's Degree.
    • The shortlisted aspirants will be called for an interview taken by the chairman, PGP, and the selection committee.

    Note: Mobile phones are strictly debarred on the college campus and the hostel. The students can deposit their registered mobile (by giving registration fee) in the office and can collect the same when going home.
