Is it better to take a drop for JEE Main Preparation?

It becomes a big dilemma for students to decide whether to take admission in the first attempt or give the next try by taking a drop. Even for many of the students, it is quite difficult to bridge the gap between board exams and preparation for JEE Main.

JEE Main Paper Analysis (2017)

  • Talking about the subject wise analysis, the Physics and Chemistry sections were easy. Mathematics section was established to be tricky.
  • As per the analysis of the last year, the offline exam was easier than the online sessions of JEE Main.
  • The focus of the question paper in the earlier JEE Main exam was titled to the Class XII Syllabi. So the aspirants are advised to focus more on the syllabus of Class XII in all the subjects than Class XI syllabus.
  • The more application based questions was also an advantage in 2017. The number of problem-solving questions made the paper lengthy and time-consuming.
  • Many students failed to attempt questions left for review or questions left to do later.
  • However, the overall JEE Main exam was established to be easy, so the cut off was higher in comparison to the earlier years.

Physics Section Analysis in JEE Main

Physics was established difficult by many students but last year Physics was established to be easier. Aspirants claimed it to be moderately difficult with more number of numerical and direct formulae based questions being an advantage. The ratio of questions from class XII to questions from class XI was 2:1. Here is a graphical representation of the number of questions from each chapter in the Physics Syllabus.

Chemistry Section Analysis in JEE Main

  • This section as per the student’s opinion was the easiest of all the three sections in JEE Main though the level of difficulty was similar to other years’ question paper. It had more theoretical questions than the calculation based which made this section less time-consuming.
  • Same as the Physics section, the weight of Class XII was comparatively more than the Class XI syllabi. The ratio of questions from class XII syllabi to questions from class XI syllabi was 3:2.

Here is a graphical representation of the earlier year chapter wise weight in Chemistry section of JEE Main.

Mathematics Section Analysis in JEE Main

From the analysis reported by institutes, students and experts, Mathematics section in JEE Main were toughest purely because of the length of the section. It comprised direct formulae based questions but the most of the questions consumed time in the calculations.

Here again, the questions from Class XII syllabi were given more focus than the questions from Class XI syllabi. The ratio of questions from Class XII to questions from Class XI syllabus was established to be 2:1 in this section. Here is chapter wise distribution of the questions in JEE Main Maths section.
