Since XAT online registration is not far away, the aspirant can start gearing up for XAT exam preparation. The registration for XAT 2018 will start from the third week of August 2017.

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a well-known entrance exam for M.B.A course. In order to keep a track of XAT syllabus, we will offer you with the simplified information to help you complete XAT 2018. Though XAT syllabus remains same exam format changes every year.

Exam Format of XAT 2018

XAT 2018 is divided into two papers:

PAPER 1- This paper comprises sections like Verbal Ability, Judgement making and Quantitative Ability

PAPER 2- This paper comprises sections like General Knowledge and Essay writing

Syllabus of XAT 2018

Cracking XAT is no rocket science, an aspirant should know the basics and imperatives of the examination. In order to score well in XAT 2018, one must consider XAT syllabus properly to achieve lucrative results. The questions are set for different topics. According to XAT Exam format, Part A consists of 78 questions and the time allotted is 170 minutes.

XAT syllabus comprises topics like:


  1. Verbal and Logical Ability

This section tests your English skills and logical ability. The section comprises categories like:

  • Vocabulary
  • Sentence Rearrangement
  • Sentence Completion
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Reading Comprehension

  1. The questions in Verbal ability section are majorly based on Reading comprehension passages. The aspirant must get a hang of sentence correction, critical reasoning, fill in the blanks and vocabulary usage. It is recommended to read various books as only reading can help you to ace this section.
  2. A sound knowledge of Grammar skills is a must to attempt this section. You are not expected to be a "Grammar Nazi", but in order to score more in this section, grammar knowledge is necessary. You can brush up your grammar skills by reading newspapers and magazines as this will help you in building your vocabulary.
  1. Judgement Making

This section will consist of 23 questions in XAT 2018. Judgement making section comprises various categories, namely:

  • Geometry
  • Number System
  • Algebra and Functions
  • Mixtures
  • Probability
  • Arithmetic Sequence
  • Co-ordinate Geometry

  1. For judgement making a section, candidates are advised to exercise their judgement making skills comprehensively. Fickle minded nature of yours may land you in a problem.
  2. The section will comprise an amalgamation of various questions based on Tables, Caselets, Probability, Linear arrangements, Blocks, Puzzles and sequential arrangements. An aspirant can score well in this section by using common sense. This is the easiest section out of all the sections. 
  1. Quantitative Ability

Solve the basic problems, regularly to get a proper hang of this section. Fast mental calculations is a mantra to achieve in this section as they will enable you to consume lesser time and to attempt maximum questions in a given time frame.


  1. General Knowledge

This section is very basic and aspirants can recall all the academic teachings of the school. General awareness section will include 25 questions, based on present happenings and static GK.General Knowledge section includes:

  • Awards and Recognitions
  • Merger & Acquisitions
  • Economics
  • History
  • Nation and states
  • International Relations
  • Business
  • Politics

How you can attempt General Knowledge section:

General awareness is a section where you won't require much preparation as it is based on your earlier knowledge. As this section is quite basic, you can aim to achieve greater results. The questions might be based on Politics, Entertainment, Science, Business, and Popular Individualities etc. An aspirant can score well in this section by brushing up their knowledge on present events.

  1. Essay Writing

Essay writing is something which we have learnt and been practising from our school times. If you are a pro at writing, then you don’t require to worry about this section as this section will give you brownie points only, but if you are not that good at writing, we will help you with some guidelines which will certainly give you an edge over other to complete XAT 2018.

How you can attempt Essay Writing Section:

The topics for this section are basically abstract or are based on a common phrase or an idiom. For further helping, the participant is offered with an implied philosophical hint, which serves as a base for building your essay. No proper guidelines can help you to crack this section, but an aspirant can work on his/her thought procedure by writing them down on paper. This will surely help the aspirant to attempt essay writing section with a proper attitude.
