XAT Exam Pattern 2018 Latest Chaneges

As per the latest developments in XAT Exam Format for the year 2018, the exam method has been shifted to online mode. Apart from this, the time period for this exam has also been increased to three and half hours now. It has been confirmed that the basic XAT Exam Format will be the same as it was before, no major change is there.

To put all the queries and speculations at bay regarding exam format of XAT 2018, the exam convener has completed the air around these speculations. Fr Antony Uvari, the exam convener stated, “XAT 2018 will have a similar format of the test sections with the only exception that it will be online computer based test.”  

Follow the given below highlights for better clarity of the changes introduced.

  • Also, the test period has been increased. The period of the exam is three and half hours now.
  • Part B has questions from 2 sections- General Knowledge and an Essay writing.
  • Part A has 3 sections namely, Verbal and Logical Ability, Judgment Making and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.
  • XAT 2018 will consist of 2 parts- Part A and Part B.
  • Syllabus for XAT has not seen any change as of yet, it is expected to be same as that in earlier years.
  • Sighting the changes introduced, XAT Cut Off might increase marginally.
  • Aspirants will be able to move out and in from the sections in the exam. There is no restriction on this facility.
  • The elementary difference is that XAT 2018 will be a computer based online exam.

Exam Format for XAT 2018

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2018 will be organized by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI on January 7, 2018, from 10 AM to 1.35 PM in a single session as online computer based test. This is the biggest change in XAT exam format which has been introduced by XLRI, as for more than last 60 years XAT has been a paper pen-based test. 

Despite all the changes in other exams, XLRI-XAT exam did not change from paper-based test to computer-based test. However, picturing the changes in other exams also and with a view to save the paper and to make the exam procedure a little faster, XAT 2018 has been changed to online computer based test now. 

XAT syllabus is not that strict. XAT Syllabus is based on past trend of XAT exams and it is the outcome of the topics that have been covered previous in the exam via the type of questions, their structure, pattern, and number may change in each successive XAT exam.

The subjects can be broadly divided into Verbal and Logical Ability, Judgment Making and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. There are two parts in XAT 2018, Part 1 which has these three sections. All the questions are objective type questions. These three constitute the three sections of the exam paper. Part 2 tests the aspirant’s General Knowledge and Essay writing.

The number of questions in each section in XAT changes each year. Going by the past inclinations, XAT 2018 exam format may further get refurbished and the number of questions in each section of XAT question paper may change. However, XAT 2018 question paper does not propose to increase the number of questions and as per the last 2 years exam trends, total questions in XAT 2018 question paper may decrease further from existing 72.

XAT 2018 Marking Scheme

Accordingly, all questions will carry equal marks in XAT 2018 question paper as seen in earlier years question paper and exam format. There will be negative marking with 1/4 of a mark being used as a penalty for each inaccurate response. There is no change expected in XAT marking scheme as of this year. Each question in the test paper will have 5 response options.

Exam Duration for XAT 2018

The time limit to attempt the paper is now increased to three and half hours. Five minutes are allotted in turn over time between the two. Total time of 35 minutes will be allotted to attempt GK and Essay writing sections in XAT 2018 exam. Aspirants will get 170 minutes for XAT Part 1. XAT 2018 test takers would be expected to attempt GK questions in 10 minutes and rest 25 minutes are supposed to be devoted to Essay Writing section.

XAT 2018 How to mark the responses?

If you are familiar with online exams, you know that aspirants have to mark the responses by clicking the right option. They can also move smoothly from one section to another in XAT Part 1 by clicking the name of the section. They can move to the next or the last question by clicking the ‘next’ and ‘earlier’ buttons respectively. Aspirants are advised to be careful while attempting the paper as XAT is being organized online for the first time.

Cut Off for XAT 2018

XAT Cut Off has remained constant over the past few years, however with the newly introduced changes, we can expect a marginal surge in the cut off this year. Apart from this, increase in the time period may result in an increase in the number of questions attempted.  The reason sighted for this increase is that XAT has been made an online computer based exam and the time period has also been increased, therefore, candidates may be quicker to response the questions through online mode.

 XAT Registration 2018

XAT registration is open now and it will be open until November 30, 2017. Aspirants can also register until December 15, 2017 with a late fee if they are unable to register before November 30. XAT Registration can be performed by visiting the official website i.e. http://www.xatonline.in/.

XAT scores are used by many top B-schools of the country for providing admissions. There are also sectional cut offs. XAT Part 2 is also important but it does not contribute to the percentile score. Only marks obtained in XAT Part 1 are considered while calculating the percentile. There is a percentile cut off released after the exam. Marks scored in General Knowledge section of XAT 2018 test paper would only be used at the time of final selection and not for selecting contenders for interview or GD.

XAT is a national entrance exam and it will be organized in all the major cities across India. There are about 50 exam cities, the list can be established on the official website.
