UPES DAT (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Design Aptitude Test) Exam Pattern 2018

UPES DAT 2018 Exam Format and notification will be announced by UPES on its official website www.upes.ac.in.

  • The total number of questions asked in the entrance test will be 25. Each question will have 4 alternative answers suggested a response.
  • The period of the entrance test will be 1 hour (60 minutes).  
  • The syllabus for UPES DAT 2018 B.Des programs will be based on 10+2 or equivalent level. For M.Des programs, the syllabus will be based on bachelor’s degree or graduate level knowledge.
  • The online exam for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate design course will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs) i.e. objective type questions.
  • Candidates who qualify the exam will be selected for the interview and portfolio around.
  • It will consist of 100 questions divided into 3 sections namely- Vehicle Sketching section, Design Activity section and Creative Analysis section.
  • UPES DAT 2018 offline exam for B.Des will be organizeed at the interview centres allotted to participants.
  • The medium of language will be English only.
  • UPES DAT 2018 for B.Des field will be organizeed in both offline and online method while it will be organizeed in the online method only for M.Des.

Exam Format in Detail of UPES DAT 2018

UPES DAT 2018 will be held in both conventional (pen and paper-based) as well as computer-based mode. The exam paper will be available in the English language only.

  • The online exam for B.Des streams will include of 25 objective questions while the offline exam will consist of 100 questions.
  • The period of both the modes of the exam will be 1 hour. The maximum marks an aspirant can score in UPES 2018 are 100.
  • Participants must choose the most suitable response out of 4 alternative options. They must note that negative marking is not eligible for this test.

The offline question paper of UPES DAT 2018 for B.Des program will be segregated into 3 sections- Vehicle Sketching section, Design Activity section and Creative Analysis section.

  • There is will be a restriction of solving a particular section within a stipulated amount of time.
  • They will need to mark their responses and draw sketches on the sheet offered at the exam centre.
  • Participants will have to attempt all sections in the order prescribed and cannot attempt it in the order that they seeking.

UPES DAT 2018 for M.Des program will be organizeed in the online mode. The question paper will be available in English only. It will include of 25 objective questions to be solved within an hour. The maximum obtainable marks in this test are 100.

Marking Scheme of UPES DAT 2018

Participants must know the marking scheme in order to decide how to attempt the questions in the aptitude entrance test. It should be noted that negative marking will not be eligible for the test. There has been no change in the marking scheme of UPES DAT and it is the same as it was for the year 2017.

The marking scheme is given as follows:

Online Exam Marking Scheme for M.Des and B.Des:

  • +4 marks will be honoured to students for marking every correct response.
  • There will be no penalty for marks, charged for marking wrong or inaccurate responses i.e. negative marking will not be eligible.
  • No mark will be deducted from the total score of the student for leaving a question blank or failure in attempting it.

B.Des Offline Exam Marking Scheme:

  • The sectional time limit will be eligible.
  • Marks will not be deducted for leaving not responding a question.
  • Negative marking will not be eligible.
  • +1 mark will be honoured to candidates for marking every correct response.

  • General Knowledge and Present Affairs: Economics and business affairs of the country, International affairs, schemes launched by Government, Political Science, Geography, Sports, Technology
  • English grammar: Active and Passive Voice, Sentence Completion, Correction of Sentences, Jumbled Paragraphs, Synonyms and Antonyms, Replace the missing words, Punctuation, Inaccurate words and Tenses.
  • Comprehension: Understand the contents of the given passage and utilize accurate phrases, words and expressions to response the questions based on it.
  • Logical reasoning: Syllogisms, Family Tree, Verbal reasoning and Analogy, Critical reasoning, Data interpretation, Matrix arrangements Embedded Figure, Figure Partition and Dot Situation.

UPES DAT 2018 B.Des Offline Exam

This section aims to evaluate the designing aptitude of aspirants. Participants must have good design and sketching skills to do well in these sections. It will have questions wherein candidates must clear the layouts of a vehicle as directed and solve 3 design concerned problems to analyze the creativity of participants. They must make use of the limited supplies offered to them at the exam centre to clear their sketches.

The syllabus for M.Des courses will be of graduation level. Some questions based on general design knowledge and present social events may also be asked. The major topics are mentioned below. Important Instructions for UPES DAT Exam Pattern 2018

It is the responsibility of every participant to ensure that they follow some rules and regulations to maintain the decorum of UPES DAT 2018 exam hall so that the examination proceeds properly.

  • Items like slide rulers, calculator, logarithm table, pagers, Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, etc. are debarred and will not be allowed inside the exam centre.
  • Candidates can approach the Centre Superintendent/ Examiner in the room if they require any technical assistance, first aid emergency or any information regarding the test.
  • Students must attempt the questions in the order prescribed as there is a sectional time limit.
  • Aspirants will be offered stationery at the exam centre and have to use only that limited stationery.
  • Attendance will be taken by the examiners or supervisors current in the exam hall, on the attendance sheets.
  • Candidates will not be permitted to leave the exam venue before the exam time is concluded.
  • They must bring UPES alloted UPES DAT 2018 Hall Ticket with recent, passport-sized photo duly pasted on it and a valid photo ID proof.
  • Personals will not be permitted to create any disturbance inside the examination hall. Any gesture or conversation between them will be treated as access to rules and action will be taken accordingly.
  • Students must report to the test venue minimum 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the exam.
