NMAT (NMIMS Management Aptitude Test) Exam Pattern 2018

GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) will announce the notification and exam format for NMAT 2018 on its official website www.nmat.org.in. The information brochure along with NMAT 2018 Exam Format will be announced in the month of July 2018.

NMAT by GMAC will include multiple choice questions (MCQs) i.e. objective type questions. NMAT 2018 is a computer-based test i.e. method of the exam is online.

  • The total number of questions asked in the entrance exam will be 120.
  • Every accurate response will be honoured +3 mark and negative marking is not eligible. The maximum marks an aspirant can score is 120.
  • The question paper will be divided into 3 sections- Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Skills.
  • Each question will have 5 alternative options out of which one that seems the most suitable choice, must be selected.
  • The period of the exam is 2 hours (120 minutes). However, students will be given an additional time of 20 minutes before the exam to clear essential formalities.
  • The medium of language will be English only.

NMAT 2018 is a national level entrance exam. The standard of the entrance test will be that of Higher Secondary (10+2 or equivalent exam).

NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) is organizeed by GMAC for admission into the first year of different Post Graduate Management courses in NMIMS and different participating institutes across India for the academic year 2018-2019.

Exam Format in Detail of NMAT 2018

NMAT 2018 will be a computer-based test (CBT). It will include of 120 objective questions to be solved within 120 minutes. The question paper will be available in English only.

The question paper will be segregated into 3 sections- Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Skills. Each section will have to be solved within a stipulated duration of time. Candidates must choose the most suitable response out of 5 alternative options. Candidates can choose the order of attempting the sections at the beginning of the exam. The students can proceed to the next section if they finish a section beforehand but the remaining time cannot be used for other sections. The maximum marks an aspirant can score in NMAT 2018 are 120.

Exam Format for Language Skills

This section will test the candidate’s knowledge of the English language. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 32. This section has to be solved within 22 minutes.

Exam Format for Quantitative Skills

This section will assess the basic mathematical ability of students. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 48. This section is considered to be relatively a scoring section and the time limit is 60 minutes. The difficulty level for this section is 10+2 level.

Exam Format for Logical Skills 

The logical skills section is designed to evaluate the understanding of formats from the data given and to test the visualization power of candidates. This section will include of 40 questions to be responded within 38 minutes.

Marking Scheme of NMAT 2018

Participants must know the marking scheme in order to decide how to attempt the questions in the entrance exam. There has been no change in the marking scheme of NMAT 2018 and it is the same as it was for the year 2017. The marking scheme is said as follows:

  • No mark will be deducted from the total score of the student for leaving a question blank or failure in attempting it.
  • There will be no penalty for marks charged for marking inaccurate or wrong responses i.e. negative marking is not eligible.
  • The marking of two options is not possible as aspirants have to choose only 1 option that seems the most suitable and clicking on another option will mark it as the response.
  • 1 mark will be honoured to aspirants for marking every correct response.

Qualifying Marks

The qualifying marks for NMAT 2018 will be decided by the organizing body, NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies). Aspirants should note that they must qualify both, section wise and total cut-off marks to be applicable for admission to different management programs. Those participants who do not score the at least stipulated marks will not qualify and hence will not be short-listed for the Case Discussion and Individual Interview rounds.

Exam Syllabus of NMAT 2018

The syllabus for NMAT 2018 is based English, Mathematics and Logic of Higher Secondary or 10+2 level knowledge. It will be as decided by GMAC for every section. The section wise syllabus is given as follows: Participants must make sure that they follow the right syllabus to prepare well for the exam.

Language Skills 

Candidates must have a good command over the English language and communication skills in order to acquire admission in the MBA or the PGDM programs. The language skills section assesses a candidate’s command over the language and grammar skills. It will also consist of 2 to 4 passages based on which the students must respond the questions that follow. NMAT 2018 is designed to evaluate the comprehension and grammar skills of the aspirant. The main topics of this section are: It is deemed to be a difficult section as the time limit of 22 minutes requires fast and correct responses.

Quantitative Skills 

NMAT 2018 is a time-bound computer-based test and it tests the aspirant’s speed and accuracy in the Quantitative Skills section. It is the most scoring section of the exam. The difficulty level for this section is of 10+2 level. This section assesses the student’s ability to apply mathematical concepts to solve real-time problems. Logical Skills

The logical reasoning section of NMAT 2018 assesses the candidate’s ability to analyze basic logical questions which require a reasoning aptitude to understand and solve. Questions are designed so as to measure the ability to draw logical conclusions based on arguments or statements and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of those arguments. Important Exam Day Instructions for NMAT Exam Pattern 2018

Candidates must ensure that they follow some rules and regulations to maintain the decorum of the exam hall and to ensure that the examination proceeds properly.

  • They must bring the Confirmation email print out, Hall Ticket alloted by NMAT by GMAC and original valid Photo and Signature ID along with 1 photocopy along with them.
  • Candidates will have to mark their responses and review the questions of a particular section within the allotted time.
  • Participants must report to the test centre at least 45 minutes prior to the scheduled test recruitment.
  • They must then accept the Non-Disclosure Agreement and choose the order of sections.
  • If a candidate moves out of a section, then he will not be able to return to that particular section to attempt or review the questions/ responses.
