IISc Bangalore PG Admission 2018

Indian Institute of Science has announced the examination dates for admission to Post Graduate Degree programs namely M.Tech, M.Des, and M.Mgt at iisc.ac.in. The online application will be available from February 1 to March 26, 2018. The admission will be based on valid scores in GATE.

M.Des and M.Tech Programs

The Institute provides course programmes based on coursework: Master of Technology (M Tech), Master of Design (M Des) and Master of Management (M Mgt). 

Indian Institute of Science offers admission to 400 students every year for its course programs. Out of 400, 50 sponsored aspirants from the Defence Services, DRDO, ISRO, NTRO, BARC, NAL, CPRI, KSRTC, BMTC, PWD and BDA and faculty members from engineering colleges under the Quality Improvement Program are also given admission.

Candidates can choose to apply to a maximum of 5 branches from the M.Tech and M.Des programs.

M.Tech will be provided in following branches:

  1. Aerospace Engineering (AE)
  2. Chemical Engineering (CH)
  3. Civil Engineering* (CE)
  4. Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  5. Materials Engineering (MT)
  6. Computer Science & Engineering (CS)
  7. Microelectronic Systems (MI)
  8. Signal Procedures (SP)
  9. Systems Engineering (SE)
  10. Instrumentation (IN)
  11. Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering (TI)
  12. Electronic Systems Engineering (ED)
  13. Computational and Data Science
  14. Climate Science (CL)
  15. Earth Science (ER)
  16. Electrical Engineering (EE)
  17. Communication & Networks (CN)
  18. Nano Science and Engineering (NA)

Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (PD) will be the administration body for M.Des program. The total seat intake for M.Des is 25. The area of study for M.Des would be Product Design and Engineering.

IISc Bangalore PG Eligibility Criteria

Those who are in final year of the qualifying examination and awaiting results are also applicable to apply.

Master of Management Program (M.Mgt)

Aspirants with a B.E./B.Tech Degree (first class), and must have qualified in GATE 2018/2017/2016 and hold a valid GATE score card, or CAT 2018 or GMAT with a valid score card having validity as on August 01, 2018.

Management Studies (MG) will be the Department of Master of Management Program. The areas of study for Management Studies will be Business Analytics and Technology Management. The total seat intake for M.Mgt is 15.

Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of Design (M.Des)

Aspirants aspire to take admission in M.Tech programs should qualify GATE (2016/2017/2018). While for those who are interested in M.Des should have a valid scorecard in CEED 2017/2018 or GATE.

Aspirants who join initially for M.Tech programs may be permitted to transfer to the Ph.D. program, subject to academic assessments.

  • Bachelor’s Degree holders in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science/ Electronics followed by qualifications obtained via an examination organized by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE.
  • B.Arch or B.Des (for M.Des program only).
  • B.E./B.Tech or its equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree holders in Science including Physics with Electronics/ Instrumentation/Geology/ Computer Applications/ Physical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences as eligible for personal departments providing M.Tech programs.

IISc Bangalore PG Online Application Instructions

Instructions for filling the online application form for different programs provided at IISc Bangalore are:

Step 1: Register with Gmail email id and set a password to create a new account at www.iisc.ac.in. Fill in the following details:

  1. Name of the aspirant
  2. Password
  3. Date of Birth
  4. Email Address
  5. Category
  6. Security Question
  7. Security Response

Submit the details and verify the email. The online registration is clear.

Step 2: Login to the website and fill in the application form. Keep the following information handy to void last minute rush.

  • Details (Registration/Roll Numbers, Paper Code /Score etc.) of GATE / CEED /CAT / GMAT.
  • Certificate / Mark sheets of 10th Std, 12th Std, Under Graduate Degree and/or Post Graduate Degree.
  • A scanned image of your signature.
  • A scanned image of your passport size photograph.
  • Payment Option: Decide on the method of payment you prefer towards the application fee.
  • A scanned image of your caste certificate.

Step 3: The application form is divided into 4 sections: Individual Details, Preference Departments, Details of Qualification and Payment of fees.

Fields marked with * are compulsory to be filled in the application form.

Save and Proceed to move to the next section of the application form.

The only method of payment of application fee is Online. The payment can be made either by Net banking or Visa card / Master card or Credit card or Debit card. Bank charges extra may apply to payment. The application fee is INR 800 for Gen and OBC aspirants while for SC/ST/PwD, it is INR 400.

IISc Bangalore PG Selection Procedure

M.Tech Program

The final selection of the aspirant would be on GATE (2016/2017/2018) scores only. In the case of aspirants with equal GATE score, their performance in the qualifying examination will be used to resolve the tie.

M.Des Program

After screening based on the GATE/CEED score, a design aptitude test will be organized on May 14, 2018, timings 10.45 a.m to 12.45 p.m and interview will be organized between May 14 and 16, 2018. Selection will be based on performance in the design Aptitude Test and Interview.


After screening based on GATE 2016/2017 /2018 / CAT 2018 /GMAT scores, group discussion and individual interview will be organized at the Institute, between 16 and 18 April 2018. Selection will be based on performance in the group discussion and interview.
