IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria 2018

IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria 2018 have been announced by Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam for admission to PG Program in Management (PGP) for the academic batch 2018-20.
The institute will look into several other factors such as past academic record, work experience and performance in Written Ability Test (WAT) and Individual Interview (PI) apart from CAT scores.

Some highlights of the IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Procedure are given below-

  • IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria comprises 3 phases after completing CAT Exam- Shortlisting for Individual Appearance (PA), Qualifying WAT & PI and Final Merit List.
  • After the above 2 phases, a consolidated merit list will be created which will form the basis of final admissions.
  • Aspirants after completing  CAT Selection criteria are offered admission in IIM Vishakhapatnam. 
  • Aspirants who manage to complete CAT cut off laid by IIM Visakhapatnam will be shortlisted for Phase 2 which comprises PI and WAT.
  • Admission into the PGDM program will be granted to students who complete both rounds after considering their entire academic profile and other individual traits.
  • The overall cut off need for IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria by a general category student is 90 percentile. They must also complete the sectional cut off.

Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam, famously known as IIM Visakhapatnam or IIM V is one amongst the 20 IIMs founded by the Government of India. IIM Visakhapatnam reserves the right to modify any part of this document including the different criteria and cutoffs mentioned at any time till the actual admission procedure for the batch is finished.

IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria - Phase 1

All aspirants who will appear for CAT 2017 and submit an application for admission into IIMV will be evaluated under Phase 1

  • The confirmation has to be done within the stipulated date.
  • Percentile cut off score for admission to PGP admissions in IIM Visakhapatnam will be decided by the institute only.
  • An email concerned to reconfirming their interest will be sent by IIMV to all aspirants in the first shortlist during the third week of April 2018.
  • The first phase involves formulating a list of qualifying aspirants, who will be sent notification for re-founding their interest in taking admission at IIMV for PGP 2018-20.
  • To get shortlisted in Phase 1, the aspirant will have to secure at least percentile score in every section and in total in CAT 2017.
  • Aspirants with positive aggregate and section-wise raw score will only be considered for shortlisting.

IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria - Phase 2

Aspirants, who successfully reconfirm their interest in studying PGP from IIMV prior to the last date, will be considered for admission procedure in Phase 2. These aspirants will be referred as qualified confirmed aspirants.

  • The 90th percentile score is calculated via a database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT participants of last 2 years
  • In case, aspirant’s final score is pending, intermediate scores will be taken into consideration
  • Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting and Company Secretary certifications are the only courses that will be considered under professional degrees
  • For bachelors’ and professional degrees, final scores secured by the aspirants will be taken into consideration
  • Firstly, adjustment for qualified confirmed aspirants’ percentages in 10th and 12th board examinations will be done by dividing each score by the 90th percentile score secured in that board
  • Adjustment for graduation marks is done within their respective categories.

Score or weightage of work experience for all qualified confirmed aspirants will be calculated as

  • A weighted work experience score will be calculated by multiplying work experience score with the quality of work experience score, which will be granted by interviewers during PI in the second phase
  • Here, ‘x’ is the number of months of work experience until July 2017. The score will be maximum (8) if aspirant’s work experience is 36 months or more
  • Selection of the common parameter of work experience will be based on the maximum of work experience score and professional course score since both are a source of professional work experience that is significant for a management program
  • Quality of work experience score will be given on a scale of 5 points (0.25 - 0.5 – 1 - 1.5 – 2)

  • Weightage of personal sections within CAT 2017 is as follows:
  1. VARC – 14
  2. DILR – 16
  3. QA –  10
  • Normalization or standardization of all factors is done via the following formula:
Max [0, min {wt, wt/2 + ((Val-mean)/ sd) * wt/6}]
  • Standardized score (from 0 to weight (wt)) is calculated from the raw score (Val)
  • A pre-PI rank list is then prepared on the basis of weighted aggregate score of above 6 factors
  • IIMV then formulates a second shortlist of aspirants on the basis of the pre-PI rank list
  • Aspirants thus shortlisted will then be called for further evaluation through PI and WAT

IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria - Phase 3

All Phase-2 Shortlisted Aspirants will receive notifications to appear for PI and WAT. Along with submission of documents

  • Phase-2 Shortlisted Aspirants will receive an invitation from IIMV for submission of detailed application, which will include
  1. Statement of purpose
  2. Details of semester/year wise marks in Bachelors’ or Professional degree
  3. Copies of all academic mark sheets and certificates
  4. Copies of work experience certificates (if eligible)
  5. Certificate for PWD (if eligible)
  6. Certificate of SC/ST/NC-OBC (if eligible)
  • Aspirants will be considered for Phase 3 only if they successfully submit the above documents by the due date
  • Aspirants, who have been shortlisted and interviewed for PGP/PGPM courses at one or more of IIMs at Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow, will not have to appear for PI/WAT at IIMV. Following parameters will be followed for these aspirants:
  1. Aspirants shortlisted for PI/WAT at IIM Bangalore will have their PI/WAT score for IIM Bangalore considered as PI/WAT score for IIMV as well
  2. Aspirants shortlisted for PI/WAT at IIMs Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow, will have their average of PI/WAT score considered as PI/WAT score for IIMV
  • Other Phase-2 Shortlisted Aspirants will have to appear for PI and WAT that will be conducted by IIMV
  • The final aggregate score will be computed by adding scores of following factors to WAT and PI scores:
  • Weightage given to WAT and PI scores is 10 and 30 respectively
  • If necessary, earlier academic scores will be updated, based on actual mark sheets submitted by aspirants
  1. CAT Score – 25
  2. 10th Examination – 10
  3. 12th Examination – 5
  4. Bachelors’ Degree – 10
  5. Weighted Work Experience - 10
  • Aspirants will receive final admission provide only on the basis of ranks obtained depending on final aggregate marks
  • Ranks will be given separately for each category
