IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Trichy Admission Criteria 2018

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirapalli (IIM Trichy or IIM T) has declared its admission criteria for admissions into its Post-Graduate Program (PGP) for the batch 2018-20. The notification also states that IIM Trichy has planned for the batch size of 180 aspirants. IIM Trichy will consider CAT 2017 Score to shortlist aspirants for the further selection procedure.

CAT Result will be released at iimcat.ac.in on or after January 15, 2018. Institutes will call the aspirants meeting they're mentioned Cut off and other requirements for further GD/PI Rounds for further selection Procedure.

IIM Trichy has the right to make any modifications to the admission criteria. Given below are the details of all admission criteria for admission into PGP in IIM Trichy.

  • Aspirants completing the necessary CAT cut off will need to attend the Individual Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT).
  • IIM Rohtak is the coordinating body for admissions for 2018-2020 batch. It acts on behalf of the 9 IIMs which does not comprise the older IIMs.
  • Factors influencing the composite score comprise CAT percentile, PI score, WAT score, Performance in Undergraduate level, Master’s Degree or Professional Qualification, Work Experience and Gender Diversity.
  • Initially, aspirants are shortlisted based on Percentile of CAT 2017.
  • After completion of PI and WAT rounds, a composite score is calculated and based on this composite score, a final merit list is prepared.

This year, IIM Rohtak will organize PI & WAT of shortlisted aspirants on behalf of the 9 new IIMs viz. IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya & IIM Sambalpur. The GD/PI-WAT will be organizeed in different cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. Shortlisted aspirants for WAT PI Rounds will be intimated by IIM Rohtak.

Criteria for Shortlisting for WAT/PI

Admission process into PGP in IIM Trichy begins with the shortlisting of aspirants. This is done entirely based on CAT percentile secured by aspirants.

The table below offers indicative information about the at least necessary percentile. Aspirants belonging to different categories required to secure this in order to be shortlisted for the ensuing WAT/PI procedures.

  • Absolute values of at least CAT percentile need to be shortlisted may vary for the 2018-20 batch.
  • It is important to note that the above figures are just to be used as a reference.
  • The final judgment is taken by IIM Trichy regarding the number of aspirants to be shortlisted for WAT/PI. This may affect CAT Cut Off.
  • Though securing the at least cutoff CAT percentile is necessary, it will not guarantee the improvements of aspirants to the WAT/PI stages of the admission procedure.

PI/WAT Venues and Procedure 2018

According to the CAT selection process, aspirants shortlisted for P/WAT rounds based on CAT percentile will need to appear for the Individual Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT).

Apart from CAT percentile, the PI and WAT rounds have a huge bearing on the IIM Trichy admission criteria for the PG Program.

Individual Interview (PI) round is designed to test aspirants in their different interindividual skills, soft skills and the extent of their technical and problem-solving skills.

Writing Analysis Test (WAT) aims to measure aspirants in their grip over vocabulary along with the presence of necessary content. Aspirants are also judged based on the quality of written content.

The PI and WAT rounds will be held at the following venues-

  • Chennai
  • New Delhi
  • Bangalore
  • Mumbai
  • Kolkata

Aspirants will be informed of the exact dates and timing of the PI and WAT rounds by the IIM that is coordinating admission process for the 2018-2020 batch. IIM Rohtak is the coordinating IIM for 2018-2020 acting on behalf of the 9 IIMs.

The 9 IIMs are- IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Rohtak.

  • Such aspirants will be informed in advance by the coordinating IIM. They will not need to attend the common PI and WAT procedures organizeed by IIM Rohtak on behalf of nine IIMs.
  • Aspirants may independently be shortlisted by the 9 IIMs as well as the older IIMs.
  • In such case, IIM Rohtak shall take the Individual Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT) scores of aspirants who have appeared for the same in the older IIMs.  

Criteria to Select Aspirants Post PI/WAT 2018

  • Admissions into the PGP in IIM Trichy will be based on the final merit list.
  • Composite scores are calculated based on numerous parameters.
  • This list is prepared based on the composite score of aspirants.
  • Each parameter has a certain weightage affiliated with it.

The following table depicts the different parameters that influence the composite score and the weightage of each parameter.

Details of each parameter are as follows:

  1. CAT Score (50%): Most weightage is given to score obtained by aspirants in Common Admission Test.
  2. Written Analysis Test (15%): This test determines aspirants’ skills in vocabulary, writing content and quality of the writing.
  3. Individual Interview (15%): Individual Interview (PI) organizeed is used to measure the degree of proficiency in different attributes in aspirants. Aspirants are measured in the following:
  4. Academic knowledge, academic efforts, and application
  5. Leadership qualities and effective management skills
  6. General Awareness and Disposition
  7. Overall Individuality, Temperament along with communication skills
  8. Other activities (Co-curricular and Extra-curricular)
  9. Work Experience (5%): Aspirants, with prior work experience, are gauged based on the amount of work and quality of work done during the duration of work.
  10. Undergraduate Performance Level (10%): 10% of overall weightage is dedicated to the performance of aspirants in their undergraduate level. This is done by calculating the Under Graduate Performance Score. The process to calculate Graduate performance score is as follows-
  • Each branch in undergraduate is given a particular weightage. This is to ensure there is sufficient diversity current in each batch.
  • 10% of the score thus obtained is taken as the Under Graduate Performance score. 
  • This weightage is then multiplied by the percentage obtained in undergraduate level.

The weightage affiliated for various streams of undergraduate is shown below.

  • Arts / Medicine (including Pharmacy): 0.9
  • Science: 0.8 
  • Commerce / Economics / Management: 1.0 
  • Engineering / Technology: 0.6 
  1. Master’s Degree or Professional Qualification (2%): This parameter is eligible for aspirants who have successfully passed any Master’s Degree final exam or have compleated final examinations of CA/ICWA/CS.
  2. Gender Diversity (3%): A net overall weightage of 3% is given to all female aspirants.

Provide Acceptance and Fees Withdrawal 2018

To accept the provisions of admission in IIM Trichy for the academic session 2018-2020, an aspirant required to send along a Provide Acceptance. The amount of Provide Acceptance is INR 50,000.

  • INR 1,000 will be deducted as the procedures charges and the rest of the amount will be refunded in case an aspirant seekings to withdraw an amount.
  • If a student accepts the provisions, the amount will be adjusted in Term-1 fees. 
  • No refund will be admissible if an aspirant after the date specified in the Provide Acceptance.
