JIPMER Exam Pattern 2018

JIPMER 2018 entrance exam is organizeed by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry. The University conducts JIPMER 2018 MBBS entrance exam to provide admission into MBBS programme.

JIPMER 2018 Exam Format for MBBS entrance exam is as follows:

  • The question paper will be objective type only.
  • The questions will be divided into 5 sections:
  • The number of questions will be 200.
  • JIPMER 2018 will be conducted in online mode.
  1. Chemistry – 60 questions
  2. Physics – 60 questions
  3. Biology – 60 questions
  4. English and comprehension – 10 questions
  5. Logic and Quantitative Reasoning – 10 questions
  • There is no negative marking in the exam.
  • For each accurate response, one mark will be allotted to the aspirants.
  • The question paper will be in English & Hindi languages.

The syllabus of JIPMER 2018 will be based on Class 11 and Class 12 subjects, with respect to the CBSE & State Board syllabus. The questions will be based on subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Logic and Quantitative Reasoning, English and Comprehension.

Exam Format in Detail of JIPMER 2018

JIPMER 2018 entrance exam for MBBS will be a computer-based test. Each question will carry 1 mark. There is no negative marking in the test. The test will consist of a total of 200 questions. All the questions will be objective type (MCQs).

Please note that the 200 questions given in the exam paper will be divided into 5 sections and will follow the below-given format:

As the above table shows, the question paper will consist of 60 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology sections, while 10 questions each from Logic and Quantitative Reasoning, and English Comprehension sections.

Some other points to note:

  • There will be no penalty for leaving a response blank.

Syllabus of JIPMER 2018

Below discussed is the exam syllabus for JIPMER 2018 exam. As discussed above the syllabus is based on 5 subject areas, namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Comprehension and Logic and Quantitative Reasoning.

The syllabus of the entrance exam is based on Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus as prescribed by CBSE and State Board.


Introduction and measurementRequired for measurement of physical quantities, units for measurement, systems of the unit, dimensions of physical quantities, orders of magnitude, random and instrumental mistakes, Trigonometric functions.
Description of motion in two and three dimensionsVectors in two or three dimension, vector addition and multiplication, scalar and vector products, motion in two dimensions, the general relation among position-velocity-acceleration for motion in a plane and circular motion.
Description of motion in one dimensionObjects in motion in one dimension, motion in a direct line, uniform, non-uniform motion, speed and velocity, relative velocity, average speed and instantaneous velocity, uniformly accelerated motion, acceleration in one-dimensional motion.
Laws of motionForce and inertia, Momentum, conservation of momentum, rocket propulsion, static and kinetic frictions, rolling frictions, lubrication, inertial and non-inertial frames.
Rotational motionCentre of mass of the rigid body, nature of rotational motion, torque, angular momentum and its geometrical and physical meaning, conservation of angular momentum, a moment of inertia and its significance, comparison between translatory (linear) and rotational motion.
GravitationUniversal law of gravitation, inertial and gravitational mass, orbital velocity, geostationary satellites, gravitational potential, escape velocity and weightlessness.

Important Instructions

The details mentioned below are important and must be noted before appearing for the JIPMER 2018 exam:

  • Aspirants are expected to maintain decorum for smooth organisation of examination.
  • The exam will be organizeed in two sessions- Morning Session & Afternoon Session. Aspirants must be careful while noting exam timings, venue, and session.
  • Aspirants must carry a printout of the hall ticket and a valid photo identity proof at all times during the exam.
  • On the day of the exam, aspirants must follow all the rules and regulations of the exam.
  • Aspirants must report to the examination hall minimum 45 minutes prior to the commencement of the exam.
