Common Admission Test Result 2017 (CAT Result 2017)

CAT or Common Admission Test is an All India Graduate level entrance test for MBA admissions in India. CAT 2017 has been successfully conducted on Nov 26 in two sessions i.e. forenoon and afternoon by IIM Lucknow. Over 2.3 Lac students registered for CAT exam this year.

CAT Result 2017

CAT 2017 result is likely to be announced online in the second week of January 2018 (Tentative). With the announcement of the result, CAT 2017 scorecard will be made accessible to the candidates. On the basis of CAT result 2017, the IIMs will shortlist the candidates for the next level of the selection process.

To access CAT Result 2017, candidates must enter their User ID and Password in the login window. CAT Result 2017 comprises a candidate’s overall as well as sectional percentile. Scores of CAT 2017 are valid for one year only.

CAT Cut Off is also released with CAT Result which differs from institute to institute. Those who clear the cut off are can proceed to further rounds of selection of Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The scores secured in CAT are considered for admission to both, part-time and full-time MBA programs in IIMs & other B-Schools.

How to Check CAT Result 2017?

CAT 2017 Result cum Scorecard will be announced online second week of January 2018 (Tentative) and those candidates who appeared for CAT 2017 exam can access their respective result by following the below mentioned steps:

Step 1: Go the official website of CAT i.e.

Step 2: Click on ‘CAT 2017 Score card’ tab on the webpage.

Step 3: Enter the provided CAT 2017 User ID

Step 4: Enter password

Step 5: Click on the Login button

Step 6: Click on Scorecard

Step 7: Check the details and download the CAT scorecard

The scorecard will contain the following details:

  • Registration number / U-ID (User ID)
  • Candidate's name
  • Candidate's category
  • Date of birth (DOB) and Gender
  • Date and time of examination
  • Candidate contact details and email id
  • Composite score
  • Section-wise score
  • Sectional percentile
  • Overall percentile

How to Check CAT 2017 Answer Key?

Students who appeared in the examination will only be able to download and check CAT answer key. After checking the answer key, students will come to know that how many marks they will get in CAT exam. Applicants can download CAT Morning & Evening shift answer key and question papers with solutions by following the below steps:

  • Visit the official website of IIMs’
  • On the homepage, search for the answer key link
  • Click on the link named as “CAT Exam Answer Key 2017’
  • Enter the roll number of number on the question booklet
  • Click on the Submit button
  • After clicking on the button, the answer key will appear on the screen.
  • Students are advised to download and take the printout of the answer key for future reference.

How is CAT Result 2017 Score Calculated?

The overall CAT percentile and percentage will be calculated on the basis of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehensive, Quantitative Ability According to the marking scheme of CAT, each question carries three marks. For every wrong answer, there is negative marking of one mark. However, negative marking scheme is not applicable for the non-MCQs.

CAT 2017 Percentile

The officials declare CAT 2017 result in form of percentile. A percentile is a measure used to indicate the value below which a given percentage of test takers fall. On the basis of CAT percentile, a candidate will be shortlisted for admissions in IIMs and other top B-schools. The CAT 2016 percentile is calculated on the basis of the CAT normalization process adopted by the IIMs.

CAT 2017 Cutoff Scores

The cutoff scores for CAT 2017 will be prepared by the various IIMs. After considering various factors, these CAT cutoff scores will be prepared. It must be noted that the cutoff scores will vary with the IIMs and category of the candidates. Only the candidates obtaining the minimum required cutoff marks will be shortlisted for the pre-admission rounds. After the announcement of the CAT Result 2017, the cutoff marks will be released by the individual IIMs.

Cut off will be decided on the basis of various following factors:

  1. Difficulty level of the exam
  2. Total number of applicants appears in the exam
  3. Numbers of candidates qualify the exam
  4. Availability of seats
  5. Previous year cut off

CAT 2017 Selection Procedure

CAT 2017 participating institutes will declare the shortlist of candidates on the basis of candidates’ percentile and their cutoff. CAT 2017 cutoff percentile will vary from institute to institute. While IIMs and some other top B-schools announce their admission criteria including cutoff prior to the result, a majority of the B-schools declare their cutoffs after the CAT result is declared.

The final result or the merit lists at the B-schools will be based on candidates’ performance in CAT 2017, selection rounds and overall profile.
