What is CLAT 2018?

CLAT, the acronym for Common Law Admission Test, is a national level law entrance examination. The examination is organized annually on a rotational basis by 19 NLUs. Admissions to LLB and LLM programs are provided in Indian Universities through CLAT Scores.

1) This year, NUALS Kochi will conduct the law exam on May 13 from 3 to 5 pm. Know more

Career Opportunities after CLAT 2018

After knowing what is CLAT, here comes the big question,” What career opportunities will I have after CLAT?” The simplest response is that with a good CLAT score you can get admission in some of the best law institutes and after completing your degree, you can explore different career options.

The career options available after pursuing law are as follows: -

Job in Law firms

There are a number of law firms in India which hire students from campuses as well. Some of the biggest law firms in India are AZB & partners, J Sagar Associates, Khaitan and Company, Luthra & Luthra Law offices and Trilegal. Working with these firms not only will give you a handsome amount of salary but will offer you a lot of exposure. These are organizations of lawyers which provides expertise in the field of law under a common brand name.

With these firms, you can work with great minds in the field of law and will thus enhance your knowledge as well. Sometimes, the starting packages can go as high as INR 12 lakhs.


Another very prevalent career opportunity is litigation. This simply means acting as a lawyer yourself and current cases of clients in courts and tribunals. Hiring a lawyer is necessary for a common man to fight any case in the court and thus this profession has unlimited scope.

To be applicable for practicing law, you required to be enrolled with state/central bar council and you will also be required to complete the examination of Bar Council of India. This profession has no fixed income but if you do well, you can earn a lot of respect along with good amount of money as well.


With growing demand of law practitioners, there is the natural increase in demand for law teachers and professors as well. If you possess the proper knowledge and are ready to teach, then this is really an attractive profession.

Being a teacher gives a lot of advantages, first is that you get fixed working hours. Thus, this is another beautiful career path which you choose. And lastly, teaching is a very noble profession; it has its own kind of respect inherited from it which is amazing. Secondly, you interact with new minds, their thinking and ideas make you more dynamic person. Thirdly, college lectures are paid a very handsome salary.

PSU/Banking/Corporate Sector Jobs

The size of organizations and their self-reliance is increasing rapidly. Therefore, nearly all big firms these days have their own legal departments and are keen to hire the best minds in law. PSUs and Banks do a give a handsome starting salary of 25,000 to 40,000 per month. In private sector, your starting salary may not be as high as PSUs but a good growth can be achieved in these. Thus, this is another great option for pursuing law.

Indian Corporate Law Services

This is another prestigious career option available after completing your law degree. It is a regulatory law service of Government of India. This is a job under Central Civil Services (Group A) and works under Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

To get a job under Indian Corporate Law Services, one has to complete the Civil Services Examination organized by Union Public Service Commission. However, one can also complete the exam of State Level Service Commission to get such a job under state government. This is a highly respectable job and stands amongst one of the most sought-after career options after completing a law degree.


The last and again a very obvious career option is becoming a judge. If everything goes well, one can also become a High Court judge after some years of experience. The law graduates who complete this exam are generally recruited as entry-level judges in different courts. One can become a judge by completing State Level Judiciary Exams.

Sometimes, advocates who have been practicing for a long time are also straight recruited as judges. This is another mode of entering into judiciary but might take a long time.

The career options after law are endless. CLAT does provide admission into the best law institutes of the country, therefore, one should prepare hard and get maximum score possible. But for this, one required to get admission into top-level law colleges by completing their respective exam.
