CBSE UGC NET 2018 Dates Published, Exam Pattern and Eligibility Revised

CBSE has released the dates for CBSE UGC NET 2018 July session with some major changes. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is organized by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine aspirants’ eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship or Assistant Professors in Indian universities and colleges. The test is tentatively scheduled for July 8, 2018.

A detailed notification for CBSE UGC NET 2018 is expected to be announced in the first week of February -2018 for aspirants applying for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) as well as Assistant Lectureship this year.

Recent Update in CBSE UGC NET 2018

This year two major changes in the existing scheme of UGC NET was introduced by CBSE.

  1. Two Papers instead of Three

A major change this year will be the removal of Paper III from CBSE UGC NET Exam Format, i.e, aspirants will only appear on Paper I and II.

Paper I will be of 100 marks consisting of 50 questions of 2 marks each. The paper will consist of General Aptitude and will test an aspirant’s teaching and researcher abilities. The paper is to be attempted within 60 minutes, i.e. from 9:30 a.m-10:30 a.m.

Paper 2, on the other hand, will be to test an aspirant on how thorough their knowledge of the subject they have chosen is.The question paper will consist of 100 multiple choice questions each of one marks. All the questions will be mandatory without any choices and the entire paper will have a weight of 100 marks. The period of the test will of 120 minutes from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

The entire period of the paper will now be 180 minutes instead of 300 minutes. 

  1. Change in Age Limit For JRF

The upper age for the Junior Research Fellowship which previous was 28 years has been increased by two years for the aspirants who belong to the General Category. The current upper age limit is 30 years for the aspirants of General Category and the same for the aspirants of the reserved category is 35 years.

The test will again be organized twice a year in the months of July and January.

How to Apply for CBSE UGC NET 2018?

The notification with the all the details regarding the test will be made live on the official website of CBSE UGC NET on February 1, 2018 on

The online application window will open on March 6, 2018 for aspirants. The application procedure for CBSE UGC NET 2018 will last until April 5, 2018. The last date to clear the application by paying the application fee will be April 6, 2018.

The application fee for aspirants of General category is INR 1000 and is non-refundable while the same for the aspirants of OBC is INR 500 and for aspirants belonging to the SC/ST category is INR 250.

Documents Need for Applying for CBSE UGC NET 2018

To successfully clear the application procedure, an aspirant must be willing with these documents.

  • Scanned image of the aspirant’s signature of dimension 3.5cm x 1.5 cm of size 1kb-30kb.
  • Aadhar Number. As per CBSE, it is mandatory for all the participants to possess an Aadhar number to be applicable to apply for the test.
  • Scanned image of the aspirant’s recent passport sized photograph of dimension 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm of size 4kb-40kb.

Steps to apply for CBSE UGC NET 2018

  • Upload scanned images of recent passport sized photograph and signature.
  • Make payment of application fee using either Debit/ Credit card or e-Challan. The payment can also be made offline using e-challan and submitting the same at designated disciplines of the bank.
  • Confirm payment and clear the online application and payment procedure.
  • Review all the details and submit.
  • Fill in all the details asked in the application form such as Subject of choice, choice of exam city, name, contact details, etc.
