Founded in 1985, Pondicherry University is located in the southern part of the country and it has three campuses. The university has 15 schools, 37 departments, 10 centers and 92 affiliated colleges providing PG courses in the Faculty of Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering Technology, Fine Arts, Law, Management, and Medicine.
The university provides a Ph.D. program in 44 branches including history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and English. Aspirants can get admission to Ph.D. and M.Phil course via entrance examination and interview organized by the university. NRI aspirants are exempted from entrance test examination.
The aspirant can register for admission via the official website by submitting an application fee of INR 600 (for general category) and INR 300 (for SC/ST category). The application fee for NRI and Overseas aspirant is INR 6500 which can be submitted via online or offline mode.

30% weight – Based on performance in the personal interview and scholastic achievements
70% weight – On the basis of performance in the entrance examination organized by the university

Hostel Facility
Deposit of Rs.3000/- (for Indian nationals) and Rs.6000/- (for foreign nationals) is to be paid while joining the hostels which is refundable.
University has twenty hostels on the campus 13 for boys and 7 for girls.
Scholarships Provided
The aspirant can get full-time scholars admitted to Ph.D. programmes of the University, will be applicable for a fellowship of Rs. 8000/- per month and contingencies grant per year
Aspirants who joined the Integrated Ph.D. programme will get the monthly stipend of Rs.1000/- for four months and Rs.8000/- per month for the next three years
