National Law School of INDIA University, Bangalore, offers research degrees to take admissions via UGC NET/JFR as well as via their own admission test. Aspirants required to appear for an oral presentation to the panel of experts constituted by the University for selecting aspirants. NLSIU offers Ph.D., M.Phil. and LL.D research programmes which require an at least of 3 years and maximum of 5 years.
Finished applications for various research programmes must reach the university office within the stipulated time. Presentation of the research proposal is done in the month of September and classes begin in October. University offers financial assistance to deserving aspirants for which they have various scholarship programmes.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Duration:
Aspirant required to clear the research procedure in between 3 to 5 years.
Ph.D. is available in the following 2 branches:
Eligibility: Those aspirants who have finished their L.L.M in regular method with an at least of 55% or ‘B+’ grade from a recognised university are applicable for Ph.D. in Law.
Eligibility: Aspirants having a master degree in any branch and a bachelor degree in Law from a recognised university are applicable for Ph.D. inter-disciplinary programme.
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil)
Duration:
An aspirant required to clear the research procedure in at least 3 years and a maximum of 5 years.
Eligibility: A aspirant having LL.M. degree from a recognised university with an at least of 55% or B+ grade can apply for M.Phil.
Doctor of Laws [LL.D.]
Duration: It requires an at least of 3 years and maximum 5 years for completion of the course.
Eligibility:
Aspirant having Ph.D. in law and at least experience of 10 years in the field of teaching is applicable for the course.
NOTE: Ph.D. from any other branch with experience in the relevant field is also considered for the course.
The aspirant can download the application form available at the official university website. Upon filling the application form with all the relevant details, aspirants must send it along with a research proposal of 10 to 12 pages and need fee through demand draft (DD).
DD of Rs. 3000/- should be drawn in favour of Registrar, NLSIU and payable at Bangalore. Finished applications must access the following address within the stipulated time:

Structure of proposal:
NOTE: Proposal for Ph.D. inter-disciplinary should contain topics on legal aspects, review and reform.
NOTE: A aspirant who has qualified UGC NET/JRF, SLET and foreign nationals are exempted from the admission test.
NOTE: If a student fails to clear the research procedure within 5 years then his registration will be cancelled.
