IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), New Delhi, is the largest Open University in the World. The university provides a plethora of undergraduate, post-graduate, doctoral, certificate and diploma courses via open and distance learning in arts, science, and commerce streams.
IGNOU offers MA (Master of Arts) in 18 specializations. Period of MA program is 2 years (at least) and can extend up to 5 years. Selection is on the basis of marks secured by the aspirants in their qualifying degree.

IGNOU offers MA courses in 18 specializations. All the specializations are provided in both January and July sessions except Adult Education and Women’s and Gender Studies. The specializations are mentioned below

IGNOU MA Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria


Interested aspirants must follow the given eligibility criteria for admission to IGNOU MA program:

For all IGNOU MA Programs except Education, Translation Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies
Aspirant must be a graduate in any branch from a recognised university for admission to the course
For IGNOU MA Education
Aspirant will be admitted to the course even without any Bachelor’s degree
For IGNOU MA Translation Studies
Graduate in any branch with adequate knowledge of Hindi and English
For IGNOU MA Women’s and Gender Studies
Students with a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate

IGNOU MA Admission 2018 Application Procedure


The application form is available in online as well as in offline mode. Detailed procedure for both is mentioned below

Online Mode:
For online application form submission, Aspirants must visit the official IGNOU website i.e.

Step 1: Registration

  • Aspirant’s username will be instantly sent to the registered e-mail ID and SMS.
  • The aspirant must remember his/her Username and Password for subsequent login.
  • They must fill all the necessary information like name, DOB, e-mail address and contact number.
  • Aspirants must register themselves first by creating a username and password.

Step 2: Uploading

  • After registration, aspirants should keep the scanned copy of the following documents willing for application form filling

1.Scanned Photograph and signature
2.Scanned copy of Age Proof
3.Scanned copy of Educational Qualification
4.Scanned Copy of Experience Certificate (if any)
5.Scanned Copy of Category Certificate, if SC/ST/OBC
6.Scanned Copy of BPL Certificate, if Below Poverty Line

Step 3: Preview

  • After uploading of the scanned documents, aspirants can click the ‘next button’ for the application form preview option.
  • In case of any mistake, they can go back and accurate the details or can refill the form.

Step 4: Fee Submission

  • After successful fee submission, aspirants must take print out of the online application form.
  • Aspirants can pay the program fee in addition to application fee via debit card, credit card, net banking, ATM (PNB)

Offline Mode:

Students need to purchase Student Handbook and Prospectus from the IGNOU Regional Centre or from the nearest Study Centre of IGNOU

  • Aspirants must fill all the information such as individual information, course details and educational qualifications correctly
  • Aspirants can get the offline application form on payment of INR 200 in cash at the sale counter or by sending Demand Draft (DD) of INR 250 in favor of IGNOU Regional center.


Before sending the filled-in application form to related Regional Centre, aspirants must have enclosed ‘Self Attested’ following documents

i) Photograph (pasted) and other relevant documents mentioned below

ii) Certificates in support of your educational qualification(s) i.e. semester-wise/year wise mark sheets and Provisional/Degree Certificate(s),

iii) Experience certificate wherever need
iv) Category certificate (for SC/ST/PH/OBC (non-creamy layer).
v) Age certificate.
vi) Student Card duly filled in.
vii) Acknowledgement Card duly affixed with the postage stamp.

viii) Attached documentary proof (photocopy of BPL ration card), in case of below poverty line students

For International Aspirants

i) Copy of Passport and Visa
ii) No Objection Certificate from the related Embassy in India
iii) Proof of residence of aspirant in India

  • Attached Pay Order/Demand Draft for the Program Fee/Fee for the first year
  • The aspirant must write their name, program code and application no. The stepwise procedure is mentioned below:
