Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) is one of the Institutes of National Importance recognized by Government of India. It was the third Indian Institute of Technology after IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur. It had been established through an act of parliament. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was established in 1959 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs.
IIT Madras offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees across 15 disciplines in Science, Engineering, Management and Humanities. The institute takes admission to B.Tech. and integrated M.Tech. Courses throughout the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced), to PG programs in Engineering on the basis of GATE score, a written exam and interview, to PG programs in sciences on the basis of Joint Admission Test (IIT JAM) and to MBA program through Common Admission Test (CAT).
It also offers a 5-year integrated M.A program in the disciplines of Development Studies and English language. Applications for all the PG courses have to be submitted online from the official website of IITM. The application fee is INR 400 for all the courses.
Admission to the Integrated M.A. in Development Studies & English Studies are through marks secured by the candidates in the university entrance examination Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE), which is open to all candidates from any state or union territory of India.
The programme has a total of 46 seats; each stream will have 23 seats. Allocations of seats to individual streams will be made based on the academic performance of students (CGPA) during the first three semesters, students' preferences, and availability of seats under each discipline.

Integrated M.A. in Development Studies & English Studies
Candidates applying for HSEE-2018 must have passed Intermediate (10+2) with 60% aggregate marks ( 55% aggregate marks in case of SC, ST and Persons with Disability) from recognized Board or University or equivalent.
Candidates whose date of birth after October 01, 1993 are eligible for HSEE- 2018. However, in the case of SC, ST and PwD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e., candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD and born on or after October 01, 1988 are eligible.
Every qualified candidate will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed format that will be made available along with the letter of offer of admission. Candidates will be admitted only if they are physically fit for pursuing a course of study at the Institute.
Application for HSEE-2018 is only in the online mode. The procedure is given below:
Registration: Go to the Website http://hsee.iitm.ac.in and select from the menu โApply Onlineโ and follow the instructions on the site. Enter the all mandatory Details as per the instructions. The site will prompt to save the data on the system when necessary.
Upload scanned Document: Candidates Upload scanned Photograph, Signatures and Supporting Documents like Scanned images of 10th Certificate/10+2 certificate/Date of Birth Certificate/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD category certificate (if applicable)
Examination Fee: Candidates must pay the examination fee as applicable is through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/Indian Bank challan that will be generated during the process of application. The examination fee for female candidates and SC, ST, PwD candidates is Rs. 1200/- and for all other candidates it is Rs. 2400/-. Additionally, the service charges of the Bank will be Rs.40/-.
Admission is Only Based on the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) Score. Rank list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in HSEE-2018.
